best musical sub kit under $500- dayton titanic?

heh kinda long title but that about summed up my question. I'm looking to build subwoofer to complement my newly aquired Vifa XG18 / Seas 27TDFC MTMs. and was wondering- what's good? My bet right now is the dayton kit on partsexpress. But I wouldn't mind building my own box. Just as long as all the parts are under $500. I do watch a lot of movies but wouldn't wanna trade the sub's music quality for that 'boom' factor. so, could you guys recommand me a sub under $500 that's for music? thanks.

I'll throw out a few suggestions but I'm no expert by any means

- Check out the kits offered by RythmiK Audio I have heard good things about their offerings

- The dayton RS-HiFi drivers are supposed to be great low distortion woofers a single 15" in a 3.5 cube sealed enclosure with a bash 300 would be a really nice option that would be well under $500.

Adire Shiva $100
300-500 watt BASH amp - 150-229 (no longer on sale)
BFD - 120
Build a box - Adire has several plans - sealed and ported

setup the BFD with REQ... and WOW (I just did the REQ vs. the excel charts and the old manual method.... the old method is a waste of time! )

I'd go for the Rythmik.

I'd choose the Dayton 12" HiFis

Put each in 3ft^3 for some nice "stereo" bass. If music is what you want, these will deliver.

What Will said.

I Haven't heard any of the Dayton drivers but based on the measurements and subjective opinions i've seen they will deliver the goods. So, if you can't quite afford a Rythmik kit then the Dayton driver solution would be my next suggestion. The Rythmik kit however, is an incredible value at it's price and I use my kit every day for music/movie playback and it too delivers the goods.

if i decide to go with rythmik, i'll have some questions about building the box. such as- what kind of bracings do i do, where to get the right kind of wood cheapest... or it would be best if I could buy the box somewhere too. I dont think PE sells them

I'm very impressed with the sealed subs I made using the Dayton RS 15" Hifi drivers. These were designed and built strictly for musical accuracy and do the job far beyond their modest cost.

A few pics of my build.
Pictures of 2/3's of the baffle.

Here are the rest of the pics.

All i did was a 17" cube with two circle braces and a 2.25" front baffle. The enclosure is dead solid and wasn't expensive to build.

If you need any extra assistance I am willing to help.

You could always go ahead and buy the pre-built 2ft^3 box if you go with the 12" kit or the 3ft^3 box for the 15" kit.

Edit: To keep it as close to $500 as possible building the enclosure would be your best bet.
