How bad is the Fugitive?

Well, I have this on SD DVD ... it's the first version - very old anyway (I'm not sure if they did a special edition or anything). Is it worth upgrading to the HD-DVD? I know it's bobbed or whatever...

Thanks,
Chris

In my opinion it is not worth it.....the hd dvd version is grainy with only marginal improvement.

I would wait for a double dip down the road and hope they actually improve the video this time around. I have changed my buying habits to waiting and seeing how an HD movie is reviewed prior to picking it up. At this early stage, I believe we will see studios rushing to market less than stellar transfers. IMO...I will live with my SD versions if the HD versions do not provide a significant leap in quality over their SD counterparts.

Well the HD DVD looks better then the SD DVD, but it could have been a lot better had it been transferred correctly. If you like the film enough, and are okay with the fact that you will not be getting a solid trasfer, then pick it up.

I also own the original version on DVD. I rented the HD DVD version and was actually pretty impressed by it (after hearing all the negative reviews). It looks quite a bit better than the standard snapper case version on DVD.

If you are a big fan of the movie, I highly reccomend it, if not, just rent it. I thought is was a nice improvement over the DVD version. The sound was a nice upgrade as well.

Thanks for all the replies - this is one of my favorities so it sounds like the $$ is worth it.

Cheers,

It looks a lot better than the SD-DVD IMO. That's usually enough for me to double-dip provided the price is reasonable.

If you are a fan of the movie, buy it if not, rent. It has one of the worst HD DVD PQ I have.

It's a really good movie, which I didn't have in my SD-DVD collection, therefore I bought it. I'm glad I did, I would rank it Tier 3 video quality, Tier 3 is better than any SD IMHO. I think it definitely ranks higher than Superman IIonner Cut.

my2cents.

The HD DVD looks good to me as well. Noticeably better than the DVD & the HBO hi-def capture I have.

I tried the HD-DVD and it provides the better picture for the last roughly two thirds of the movie. I ended up buying the SD which I feel gives a better picture for the opening and an equal or better for the first third of the movie (up to when Ford jumps off the dam). I'd kind of like to combine the SD for its advantages and the HD for it's on the same disc, but that's unfortunately not an option.

PS. By better, I mean image depth and detail goes to SD for the first third and to HD for the rest.

I also think this is a moderate improvement over SD DVD- however "The Fugitive" tends tp be one of those titles Fry's features in their Friday ads....

I purchased it for $14.99 awhile back.....
