EyeTV

Hi,

I'm having random thoughts about replacing my Media Centre PC with a Mac. I'm not sure it's that viable yet, but i'd like to take the first step and find out about this EyeTV product (for DTT). I'm also looking to get one for my parents Mini if it's good enough.

I've looked around, and there doesn't appear to be a great many screenshots of the application in use. For the intended use it will not be controlled via anything other than a remote, and will be used on a TV. If anyone has any screenshots of it in action, or opinions on it in general that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I think the screenshots from elgato.com pretty much covers it all. There is not too much to the program. You can also try: http://www.amug.org/amug-web/html/am...elgato/hybrid/

Flickr has a good amount of screenshots as well.

Using only the remote is rather difficult with eyetv, the program was never initially intended to be used solely with a remote imo and they just recently created their fullscreen gui which needs lots of work and has been slowly improved upon. There will be times when you need keyboard/mouse combo, especially for scheduling your recordings, its just easier and faster than through their fullscreen gui.

So there's no real fullscreen ability? (by that i mean, it's not really ideal for use on a TV with the remote). It's a shame if that's the case as it would be ideal if it could fit in with FrontRow and work well on the TV. If this isn't possible i guess i ought to stick with the PC and MCE!

The last few screenshots of that AMUG review show some of the full screen 10' interface.

Well, as khisayruou already pointed out, the full screen menu of eyeTV is perfect for browsing and selecting recorded shows etc.... basically for everything except for scheduling new recordings - this is just much easier done with a keyboard and a mouse.

Being a ex-MCE user, eyetv just doesn't come close to what you can do with a remote in MCE (I never had to use a keyboard/mouse in MCE). You can attempt to only use a remote in eyetv, but the bottom-line is that life will be easier and less fustrating with a keyboard/mouse combo for now.
