We have a new addition to our family. This addition came home on Sunday and my young daughter immediately named him...

Good to hear Steve is so far adjusting well to his new surroundings.

Knock on Butterscotch Oak.

(I mean some 49 year olds may become 'set in their ways')

Ummm...I'll pay the $52 to have a professional do it.
$52? what a deal! wait, is that a 'walk-in' special?

Well, how bout some 50s style children food to go with the piano lessons?

Since you're getting cold and snow and I'm getting nothing but cold (finally), I assume your Canadian background made you familiar with keeping the piano on an inside wall to avoid temperature fluctuations that wreak havoc on piano tune.

The Baldwin my wife plays (I haven't a musical bone in my body) isn't near that old, but it means a great deal to her. My wife can play OK, but she has a beautiful voice. (that she doesn't like to share with an audience)

Unfortunately our house is such that EVERY common space has a door to the outside that is used regularly. I'm not going to be able to avoid drafts unless I put the piano in a bedroom...and that ain't happening.

I have the piano in a non-optimal spot. I can probably work out a slightly better place. but they'll be lots of shifting of furniture and so forth.

BTW, it is snowing RIGHT now for the 7th week in a row.

To be tuned on Tuesday! I can't WAIT.
Currently 4°, with an expected high of 7°.
-4° overnight.
Still nothing but a dusting.
I need to move to Buffalo.
They're getting hammered with lake effect.
Good luck Steve!

(break a leg and not a string)
Bah.
Puny-arse 3-6 inches forecast for today.
With my luck, it will be the same crappy dusting we've been seeing all winter.

It's -3° and clear right now.
By 3P, I'll be lucky to see squat.
Probably only enough to make all the moe-rons forget how to drive.

(if Karnac is so intent on taunting the WinterWarlock, perhaps he can *boiler make* corn stoves for those of us getting the blowback)

For the record, that electrified, cylindrical object I've been jabbing at the warlock would be considered more sadistic torment than taunt.

Corn stoves are a beautiful thing when you are surrounded by farmers that have known your family before you were ever even a twinkle in Daddy's eye. The bad part for corn stoves is the ramping up of methanol plants. We have 2 or 3 already in progress around the state. The price of corn has been steadily rising. (but still cheaper than fossil fuels or electricity and less messy than wood) I, myself, have not yet jumped on the cornwagon. Still heating with "propane and propane products," courtesy of the big, white, 1000 gallon tank outside. I've looked at them, but my nearly 200 year old house and its poor insulation would make even the largest of them wheeze. Maybe when the price comes down, then only as a supplement. By that time, I'll probably have some sort of hybrid heat pump anyway.

On the plus side, there are at least 3 inches of snow on the ground right now. Finally, a snowstorm that doesn't fail to meet forecast.

60 F for two days in a row now. Thank GOD.

Steve did well. He needs a second tuning in about a month--he was so badly out of tune that the first step was a pitch adjustment. A couple of pins need to be replaced, but the piano tuner said that Steve was in great shape--worth at least 4 times as much as we paid for him and perhaps as much as 5 times. WOOT!

Anyway, I played Steve for about an hour tonight--boy am I EVER rusty. But it felt pretty darn good.

Yes, but you have no plans to pawn Steve.
It feels great to hear that, but getting numbers like that do nothing but to possibly raise your insurance rates.
(like the people on Antiques Roadshow that have no plans of selling a family heirloom)

True enough, but if the tuner had come back and said that Steve was in crappy shape, then there would be no point to keeping him. Frankly, even at 5x what we paid, it won't hurt our insurance that badly.

When robbers break in to homes pianos are the first thing they take.

Or no *plans* that will see the light of day.

Karnac has been secretly plotting to pawn that Baldwin since day 2, but can't come up with a feasible plan.
I hope the plan covers spilled grape juice.
I firmly believe all kids should have the benefit of piano lessons.

Especially boys. The world might be a different place had Karnac and icecow not *missed out* on music lessons?

I found time for piano lessons, milking the cows, public school, after school, slopping the hog. Perhaps not all in the same day... but I found time.

Maybe I should go in to advertising

No, but they are mostly wood and house fires like wood.

The rules: No food or drink on the piano, ever. No exceptions. Wash your hands before you use the piano.
Cow, you got that?

No house fires or food/drink on this thread, ever. No exceptions.

And rinse your hooves before you post.

Crosses fingers, hoping for the "worst."

My worst would be the ice. (I HATE cold rain.) Others would be the "12+" inches. The forecast has already been revised upward once. Let's hope it keeps going. I'm so jealous of Montague, NY.
The snowfall potential has changed since my last post.

"12+" has now been increased to "15+!" Woohoo!!!

We have had 50+ F for the last few days. The snow is melting fast!
