30 Sec Skip Ahead for Verizon FiOS QIP6416 DVR

I saw this one go around a few times on a number of forums, and I thought I'd post my success...

Today I received my 6416 and am enjoying it, but after using a ReplayTV for the past 4 years, I quickly found that I couldn't do without a 30 sec skip ahead function. All the info indicated that the box was capable, but that the remote just didn't have the button. Many have reported that the Logitech Harmony remote (an excellent remote btw) download has the skip function, but I don't have one of these.

I did find the JP1 solution for this situation...

This file: http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dl...e&file_id=3209

contains the Skip Ahead function which one can use to upgrade an existing JP1 remote via KM and IR. If you don't know how to use the JP1 interface and the KM and IR software, there is some good help here:

I personally used my ReplayTV remote, which has a JP1 interface, change the number 1 button to the Skip Ahead function, then used the learning function of my MX-500.

Now if the 6416 only had automatic commercial skipping...

yes, the Harmony website does download the 30 second skip onto its remotes. I have it on my 880. You can also get it by using the Comcast remote. I replaced my Comcast service and kept the remotes. They work great with the 6416 and the 6200, including the 30 second skip. The "all on" feature is nice, and the Motorola remotes supplied by FiOS did not have this. It was a pain to have to turn on multiple pieces of equipment every time. You can pick up the Comcast remotes on eBay for about $5-10 each every day, brand new.

I have the Harmony 670 and it also does the 30 second skip. For those who are heavy DVR users, the 670 button layout is nicely arranged. The skip ahead and skip back are right next to each other and next to all the other transport keys.

Thanks for the info.

Actually, I'd prefer that this thing not be a total POS before they start adding features!
