I saw this one go around a few times on a number of forums, and I thought I'd post my success...
Today I received my 6416 and am enjoying it, but after using a ReplayTV for the past 4 years, I quickly found that I couldn't do without a 30 sec skip ahead function. All the info indicated that the box was capable, but that the remote just didn't have the button. Many have reported that the Logitech Harmony remote (an excellent remote btw) download has the skip function, but I don't have one of these.
I did find the JP1 solution for this situation...

contains the Skip Ahead function which one can use to upgrade an existing JP1 remote via KM and IR. If you don't know how to use the JP1 interface and the KM and IR software, there is some good help here:

I personally used my ReplayTV remote, which has a JP1 interface, change the number 1 button to the Skip Ahead function, then used the learning function of my MX-500.
Now if the 6416 only had automatic commercial skipping...
