Calling All ppl with only 1 RF Coaxial Input

Most flat display Tv's have 2 coaxial inputs. One for Over The Air Antenna and the other for the Cable. They did this because there are a lot of HD channels on OTA.

Now some tv's have only 1 coaxial input but state in their manual both can somehow be combined. I have included of the tv that stated something alike.

I know there is a manual switch way of doing this but I'm wondering what would happen if a splitter was put in reverse. So Antenna and cable inputted into splitter then connect to the coaxial of the Tv. Now how would the TV handle this

Here is the scenario, all HD channels have extension ie. Channel 29-1 HD and now would happen to cable channel 29 and the antenna channel 29 would the tuner be smart enough not to include regular antenna feed?

This is specially for the 50PC3D tv that I'm asking. AS the newer model UE doesn't have the 2 coaxials. I've asked this question in other forums but NO has actually done it - i dont want theories but rather actual tests.

This is similar to the Panasonic plasma - which cannot decode both cable and antenna at the same time. With the Panny, you have to initially set the tuner menu up in either Cable mode or Antenna mode - you cannot input both with a splitter because when you do a channel scan you'll have to choose to either scan Antenna channels or Cable channels as the tuner cannot do both.

To do both, the TV would have to have two RF inputs (or three RF inputs like my HP LCD TV does).

Take a look at how LG has this setup -

I don't think the diagram makes any sense?!

Well the top and middle diagram make sense (and apply to my Panasonic Plasma as well), but the bottom diagram says it's for "Analog and DTV Signals Provided on Two Separate Antennas" yet one of the RF cables is shown to be coming from a "Cable TV Wall Jack" and not a 2nd antenna so something is screwey with this one. If i were to connect my Panasonic like that, i would either have to set the tuner up in ANTENNA mode or set it up in CABLE mode first (because it cannot do both at the same time), then it would scan the channels it found through the appropriate source that i selected (antenna or cable).

I suppose it is possible that your LG's tuner is advanced enough to scan both the Antenna and Cable channels when connected like the bottom diagram so either (A) read the part of the manual that tells you how to set the tuner up and scan for channels and determine if it will scan both cable and antenna together, or (B) just go ahead and connect it that way and scan all the channels you can and see what you come up with. I think they have it this way to cover both bases, then it makes the TV ready to simply scan from either source in the setup menu.

Can you post the text of the owner's manual that describes how to set up the tuner and scan for channels? That would help.

Okay, I'm really baffled. Does anyone have a newly-purchased LG 50PC3D Plasma to look at? Does it have ONE coaxial input, or does it have TWO coaxial inputs? I need to replace a Zenith Z50PX2D, and I thought the LG 50PC3d was pretty similar. BUT - floor demo at Circuit City has 2 coax inputs (Cable & Ant); LGusa.com specs for it say ONE Antenna/Cable IN; Circuit City Website says TWO; magicray (this thread) says "This is specially for the 50PC3D tv that I'm asking. AS the newer model UE doesn't have the 2 coaxials".

Are there really older LG 50PC3D with TWO and newer ones with ONE?

What is the "model UE" referenced by magicray?

I need the capability for TWO coax (analog cable & HDTV antenna) inputs.

My Zenith Z50PX2D had that, and I don't need any more boxes/etc. No plans to change.

Anyone know? I don't want to buy one, and find out I cannot use it.

thanks, -Vern-
