Help in Mitsubishi HS-HD2000U

Need help in setting up the Mitsubishi HS-HD2000U with the WS-65909. First of all, I do not have satellite nor cable; I only have OTA without a set-top box since the WS-65909 has it build in. So, I thought this should be a very simple set up; but, I got blue screen only on IEEE input instead; however, the analog connection work fine though.

Here what I have done exactly according to the menu.
1. OTA from the wall to VCR in at the back of the HS-HD2000U.
2. VCR out at the back of the HS-HD2000U to the Ant-DTV in at the back of the WS-65909.
3. Composite out from the back of the VCR to Input-2 at the back of the TV.
4. Audio out and S-video out from the back of the TV to the Audio in and S-video in at the back of the VCR.
5. Of course, I have the IEEE1394 between the VCR and the TV.

Turned on the TV and it found the new hardware and I followed the on screen netcommand to add the connection. Switched it to Input-2 of the TV and did the Allset from the VCR menu and left it alone overnight. Turned on the TV and VCR the next day and switched to the Input-2 of the TV and I saw different TV channels ( I suspected they are NTSC though); I was able to record and play back what I recorded through the analog connection. When I switched to the IEEE input of the TV, I got a blue screen and the transport menu came up; nothing else. Channel up and down button won't response; can't see anything but the blue screen. I do not have a D-VHS movie to test the play back function though.

Of course, I called Mitsubishi and been playing phone tag with them for more than a week. Finally, get a hold on them on last Friday from 4:20pm to 7:45pm (more than 3 hours are holding time), and they couldn't help to figure out what wrong.

Can someone out there show me how to set up the unit correctly. Am I missing something when I setting it up? Am I supposed to see anything from OTA when I switch to IEEE input? Does this unit have build in ATSC? My be not; that's why I have blue screen? How do I record HD programming from Fox, NBC, ABC, and CBS? Am I supposed to switch to IEEE input when I record over the air or switch to Ant-DTV input and the channel that I want to record?

Thank you very much for your time.

You won't see anything on the firewire connection until you record a digital program from your TV's HD tuner or cable card (if you have one).

Use your TV's remote to schedule a recording (it has to be digital) and then use the TV's remote to rewind and playback the program.

I would run from wall to DTV input on TV, run separate line to the VCR, as it does not have an ATSC tuner, and if you want to loop thru it, go to Antenna A or B on the TV then. Not sure if the loop out from TV will do the same.

Then firewire from TV to VCR, and probably analog in/out too if you want to try some other recording options. Then when you select your VCR from the device list on the TV, it will give you option of D-VCR or VCR, one being firewire one being analog, to whichever composite/s-video input you used. Only analog recordings, off the antenna from the vcr, or from analog composite/svideo will play there. To play Digital, you must have recorded previously.

To record D-VHS, use the TV, push rec on its' remote. It will pop a timer setup, or second push will just start recording. Either way, it will power up D-VCR, and output digital signals via firewire to the vcr. Then playback is done by picking device, D-VCR then hitting play, it should play back via firewire.

I'm currently stuck there, because i don't have any D-VHS tapes, and the ones i've 'modded' to work dont' have high enough quality to support the recording

Hope this helps

Assuming you just want to record OTA from your TV's built in tuner, you don't need to connect antenna, analog, or anything else besides the 1394 on the VCR.

Connect antenna directly to TV, disconnect everything else except 1394, and force a recording or schedule a recording from TV Guide to the DVHS.
