HDMI DVI connection to Hitachi Plasma

Thread Starter
Are there two types of DVI connections? I got a 35 foot HDMI DVI cable to accomplish connection with my HD DVD A2. The input on the 55HDm71 Hitachi Plasma is not the same as the standard DVD-D connection that is on the Monoprice cable I strung. Do I get some kind of adapter? Will using one degrade the signal?

The guy at Radio Shack had none and just said there were two kinds of DVD connections ............. he thought.

I can't get any one from Monoprice to get back to me by phone or email.

Is there a name for this second DVI version? Believe it or not I called Hitachi and they didn't know the specification for the input on their own set. It is not in the manual.

Any help much appreciated.

There are 3 types of DVI connections.
1. DVI-D Standard DVI digital using the 24 pins in the DVI end of the connector
2. DVI-I has the standard 24 pins and 4 analog pins at the "spade" end of the connector avaialbe for a separate analog concedtion such as VGA or Component using a dongle
3. DVI-A only the 4 analog pins are connected

Use google and you can find lots of data on the DVI connectors.

Some connectors have the pins at the the spade end blocked (I have no idea why)and can not be used with cables that have the analog pins present and this is what your problem appears to be. An adaptor will not cause any problem.
