480i GC Games on Wii-Really Bad?

I use my Wii with a pj and a 100" screen. So far, I'm actually really impressed with how good 480p can look on my 720p pj. Excite truck, Sports, Warioware all look sharp and colorful. Even the VC games seems to look good (SM64 is astounding for its age!).

Since the type of games I like are few and far between on the wii (Far Cry and Red Steel got pretty bad reviews). And GC games are pretty cheap used on ebay and secondspin.com. So I picked up both metroids, MC DD, Starfox Assault, Ghost Recon 2, RE 4 and a couple of others. Luckily, I managed to pick all 480p capable games.

I happenned on a cheap copy of Medal of Honor: Frontline. When I started the game, it didn't give me the 480p yes/no screen. And it looked like crap-washed out, a little fuzzy-so bad that I never got past the first checkpoint before bagging the whole thing. F-Zero for the SNES looked better.

Are all GC 480i games going to look this bad? Just want to make sure this isn't a problem with my set-up. If the Wii can deinterlace the VC games to 480p, why can't it do the same for GC games?

I think it depends on the game.
Monkey Ball 1 is 480i only and it looks fine, but it is a very colorful game.
RE1 looks fine at 480i too, but it's backgrounds are static images.
I think it really depends on your games and your display.

the VC games are run through a software emulator that was designed to output 480p. when in GC mode, the wii shuts off access to everything else, so it is essentially a stripped down GC with the DAC for component built in. only games that were designed to use 480p detect this, so you are pretty much stuck.

other possible options include running the output through a scaler/deinterlacer, which won't help the jaggies too much, or get a GC/component cable and use a modchip capable of forcing 480p output (Qoob). modchips are just coming out for the wii, but i have not heard of anything similar quite yet..
