I will be comparing the Runco vs the Aviamo around 5:45PM today at
Gramophone in Timonium, MD (Baltimore County). I'll report back with my decision.
The demo was sub-optimal for the following reasons:
1. The Runco colors were poorly calibrated. For example, faces all were flesh-toney. There was nobody around the store to fix it when I was viewing. It's pretty incredible that a home theater store that sells high-end equipment would display a $20K plasma monitor for a couple of weeks and not calibrate it so that the colors were even approximately correct.
2. They hooked up the Fujitsu in such a way that I couldn't watch SD TV in 4x3 mode.
3. They had a Blu-Ray player but hooked up with component cables so the picture wasn't 1080p.
I viewed HD TV, digital but not HD TV, SD TV, a Blu-Ray DVD but not in 1080p, and an old DVD of "North by Northwest."
The winner: Fujitsu.
The contrast was better, the colors were a little fuller, the price is $2,000 less. I say that with the caveat that the color problem with the Runco threw me off a bit but there was no area where I thought the Runco was superior. The detail was great on both displays. The internal scalars were very impressive and the detail, even on the old Cary Grant movie, was exceptional on both.
The TV I viewed was borrowed from a PA store and is on its way to a customer. I'll find out today how long it will take for me to get my Fujitsu but I'm definitely getting it.
