Basic System Setup

I am ready to pull the trigger on a Samsung 50HP-S5053 and a Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player. What would be a good home theater system to match with these. Obviously, I dont need the DVD player that comes with the package systems but, I do understand I need a receiver with an HDMI hookup for the DVD player which doesn't support analog connections. I want a 5.1 system as I believe that is what the DVD player supports.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Let everybody know how much you are willing to spend, room size, and other preferences so you can get good recommendations.

Well, I went to CC and walked out with a Panasonic TH-50PX60U instead of the Samsung. I am still going to get the Toshiba HD-A2. I am looking to spend between 300-500. The room is 15X22 with the TV on the short wall, above a fireplace. Ceiling height is 12 ft.

Thanks again,

Mike

300-500 dollars is not going to get you much especially if you want a 5.1 system. I was going to recommend a HTIB but the room you have is pretty good in size. I hope somebody else can recommend something.
