Screen height?

Quick question. Does anyone know a rule of thumb as to where you screen should be positioned in term of your eye level. Should the bottom edge be at eye level (first row) or is the optimal to have the center of the screen at eye level - or is it all personal preference?

Great question. I am hoping that someone will be willing to answer this and perhaps mention the rule of thumb as it pertains to the proper configuration of rows of theater chairs in relation to the screen. I currently have two rows of 3 chairs with the first row person's eye level at the bottom of the screen.

I can tell you that the bottom of my screen currently is nearly at eye level in my front row. I have an 8 step up and that puts my second (and last) row at about 1/3 up from the bottom of my 100 diagonal screen. I am considering a projector that has a different offset and I may need to lower it. That was the reason for my original question. Frankly, I like where it is now and I am worried about lowering it.

Are most of your screens set up at similar heights?

The 'rule of thumb' that I've heard most commonly is to have eye level about 1/3 of the screen ht above its bottom. But I think many people have their screens higher up than this; whether this is by choice or necessity due to room constraints, I don't know.

The good chair should be at the one third of the image bottom level.
