PS3 1.51 firmware released - fixes pausing issue?

So, apparently the 1.51 firmware has been released and you should be notified of it next time you log on I suppose.

Some of my fellow posters on my videogame forum have said they've noticed that it seems to fix the infamous pausing issue, though of course the bugfix list that accompanies the firmware upgrade on the Japanese site is, as usual, obtuse and uninformative.

Just an FYI for everyone. Maybe someone could do some testing to verify.

For what is worth.

We've played around 15 Blu ray discs on our PS3. Never had a pause until the last one played after 1.5 was downloaded. Had maybe 6 pauses of 10-15 seconds.

Downloaded 1.51 today. Watched a disc (Saw). Had no pauses.

Thanks guys. That is good to know.

no pauses for me on Crank for 1.51

Good lord, 1.51 already?!?
I just did 1.5 last nite!
AND.... after had my first freeze. During a PS2 game. Had to exit the game and lost all my progress on that level... GRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!

I haven't notice anything on either 1.5 or 1.51 yet (just got 1.51 though watched a bit of Crank and Kingdom of Heaven again as a brief test. Watched probably 4 or 5 BD's the whole way through on 1.5, though Crank, x 2, Total Recall, KoH, Flyboys at least).

1.51 didn't fix it for me... had one about 30 minutes into a movie. I then disabled networking and the rest of the movie played fine.

Im staying at 1.32!!! Thanks for the updates..
I had a 15-second freeze while viewing Transporter 2 (blu-ray) this evening.

I never had a lockup prior to Update 1.5 firmware.

Too bad I can't go back to 1.32 now.

Well I watched Flyboys tonight after doing the 1.51 update and had 5 freezes and the onscreen remote control popped up 3 times. I wish I could go back to 1.50. If this isn't fixed fast its going back to bestbuy.

I just installed 1.51 Saturday morning. I never experience a pause before, but I watched Lady in the Water last night and had three pauses...

Upgraded to 1.51. Played 2 movies with no pauses. Then played Kingdom of Heaven and paused in the same way once.

Are the rest of you disabling the networking as suggested above? If so does that stop the pausing?

Paused THREE times when I watched Crank last night, but didn't have any problems through Underworld Evolution right afterwards.

Is your networking turned on or off?

Got my first "pause for 10 seconds" watching Casanova today. 1.51 and wireless network always on. Disk was brand new .

When people say to try and turn off networking are they referring to all networking or just the wi-fi networking?
go into the Prefrences then to the network settings in the control pannel and disable network
post #19 of 58
I can confirm that disabling the Network seem to cure the problem. I've watch 4 Blu-ray this week end, no freezing. prior to disabling the Network, I had freeze up in every Blu-ray I watch since 1.5 patch.

I hope Sony is taking note of this !

i watched open season tonight, and there were 3 instances where the ps3 running 1.51 paused for 5-10 seconds. really annoying! i'll try out the trick to turn off networking. other than that, the image quality of open season is phenomenal...i read it's the first disc encoded with MPEG-4 AVC and if this is any indication of the expected quality then good things are coming for blu ray. time to abandon mpeg-2!

INDEED. They broke it, now they need to fix it. The fact that they had the chance to with 1.51 and didn't is a little annoying.

yeah...i thought Sony had perhaps got it fixed with v. 1.51 but i had a 10-second freeze right at the climatic phoenix/wolverine scene in X3 last nite. oh, well...maybe v. 1.52....

This sort of thinking has to be put in context though.

Firmware releases will be coming out whenever *anything* of note in the PS3's broad performance portfolio changes. Sometimes it will effect BD playback, sometimes not. I think though that uses being aware that the issue stems from a firmware change to the networking, will mean that Sony themselves probably should not have too much trouble addressing it.

For my part I've never had a freeze, so... well, I'm glad for that! Not that I would have difficulty with disabling the network though.

When it comes to this type of stuff I'm pretty worthless. I went to Network Settings and couldn't find anything that said disable network. Do you mean disable the internet connection?
I have had no freezing problems. But the more and more I read about this problem it seems to have somthing to do with the wireless network end of things on the PS3. I own a 20 gig connected to the internet via a wired network and have expierenced no freezes during BD playback. Many 20 gig owners report having no problems...Im really not sure whats going on but I figuered this bit of info might help some people.

Had a pause on one disk (KOH) after the update and last night while watching XXX it just oddly bumped me out of the movie momentarily with a blue screen but then immediately returned back to the same place it left off. This is the second time I've watched the movie but the first time this has happened.

I had one pause watching Crank with 1.51. I wish that it had rejected the entire movie. What a POS.
