Nuvo Grand Concerto installer only?

Is the Grand Concerto an installer only item? It sounds like you need to IR Learning Center and that doesn't sound like it is sold to anybody other than an installer.

Anybody done a DIY on the Grand Concerto?

I hate that stuff is going away from DIY. Makes the Russound more likely to be the option I buy.

Well, hopefully the supplier that sold you the Grand Concerto can also sell you the IR Learning Center.

Well, since you probably bought it from a unsupported vender I guess you are out of luck.

I'm sending you a PM to try and help you out.

Didn't buy it...was looking into buying. Trying to figure out how much more expensive the Nuvo is over the Russound. Seems to be at least 50% more than the Russound CAV. I'll probably end up with the Russound.

I am looking at the Grand Concerto and have the same question as the o.p. As I am ONLY looking at connecting a Nuvo tuner to the G/C (and possibly the Nuvo iPod dock) and connecting speaker wires and keypads, WHY is the IR Learning Center required, or IS it? I have bought nothing yet, but getting quotes from several companies here for my new home, and I prefer the Nuvo to the other systems, but I also hate the thought of paying $$$ in install fees to connect a few wires!!! I don't mind paying for expertise WHEN NEEDED, but I HATE paying for someone to do the equivalent of plugging in a power cord.

I guess my theory is that if I were connecting a cd changer, a satellite box, and an outside tuner (like an outside XM tuner), then I see the need for the IR Learner and custom installation to make it all work. But if all I'm doing is plugging together Nuvo components and connecting wire and power cords, why the heck is anything else needed? What am I missing?

I sell both (and installed the niles) and can you tell you i've sold teh Nuvo to DIYers and they haven't had any problems. Another nice system is teh Niles ZR4630/8630 but the only drawback to it is lack of feedback of metadata. Both require software, the Nuvo you have to buy, the Niles is free.

So long as you can program a hi-end remote like a MX700 and fairly deft w/ a computer this isn't rocket science!

just my 2 cents...

Ok, so it sounds like regardless of Nuvo plug and play or using other source components, you still need the IR learner s/w to program it? That's not a problem. I programmed (and did the graphics for) my MX-3000 to a "single button macro--i.e., 'watch tv'" level, and feel pretty comfy around pc's. So I suspected it wasn't rocket science!! Thanks for the confirmation.

Technically, if you are using only Nuvo Branded components you don't need the IR learning station, only the software. The software is available for download on the "prozone" section of the nuvo website.

And if you're savy enough to program a MX-3000, you shouldn't have any problems (i've programmed those as well)....

And you can actually become a certified installer by setting up an account in the prozone and taking their web based courses.

Probably a good thing to do especially for a DIY person.

Great info. Looks like I might be doing a little web-learning over the next month!
