I WAS sitting the format war out, but looks like the wife made the decision for me

My wife gave me an early Valentine's day present today...a brand spanking new 60 GB PS3. Looks like I'm on the Blu side of the fence. The funny thing is I didn't even tell her I wanted one. I guess she decided she was tired of me fussing about the format war and figured she'd make the decision for me. I think the upcoming Disney titles swayed her towards Blu-ray. So I guess we've picked a side.

She's definitely a keeper

Congrads and enjoy, the PS3 is a fantastic machine. A few demo's you can download as well that you and her might like.

Very thoughtful of her.

Does your wife have an eligible sister, friend????? I would sure love a PS3. Congrats!

What a wife! Get Kingdom of Heaven to see what BD is capable of.

It wouldn't be a blu-ray thread without at least one troll chiming in. I cant wait until this war is over and they find something else to whine about.

Anyway congrats on your new toy and welcome to the future of home entertainment!

Are you gloating about your PS3 or your wife?

Got the Panny Blu-ray...not a troll. Just a smart guy who needs IR for his MX-3000.

After a while you get sick of using a game controller for a home theater remote. Sony screwed the pooch on this one!...

There is a Blu-ray remote control for the PS3 so you don't have to use the game controller. Bluetooth > IR!!

Judging by your negative posts in PS3 Blu-ray playback threads, it seems like you're a little sour that a $500 game console is just as good if not better than your $1000+ stand-alone player.

Agreed but thankfully there is a remote control specifically made for the PS3. I use it and it works fine. Not sure how you missed that.

Nope...not sour at all!...I am happy with my Panny!... Programed it beautifully into my MX-3000 and it clicks on a dime!...Got tired of the PS3 sounding like a blow dryer in my theater and freezing up on every other blu-ray disc...Oh, and it would have been nice if it output 720P....(but hey, to each his own!)...

I didn't miss it, it isn't IR and you can't program into a real universal remote...

It kills me how many people complain about the remote and would rather spend hundreds more dollars on another player just to avoid an extra remote. Hilarious.

Bitter much?

I'll say it again, some people live to complain. Imagine having to live with it.

I'm sorry you were having problems with your PS3, but both of mine have been perfect. No noise, no lockups or freezes.

Get back on topic, people!

This thread is not about remotes. This thread is about wives who are keepers! Or Valentine gifts 2007...

The PS3 is loud...It has been discussed on this forum many times by many users. And also has been known to have lock up problems...Just read a few other threads... I took back the first one and got another and it had the same problems as the first. At any rate, glad you like yours!...If you don't care about not having a IR remote, and don't mind a few freezes, and you like loud fan noise, it's the perfect unit!...ENJOY!...

He said his unit is flawless and quiet. And you know what? I believe him because mine is too. You really need to get off your IR remote kick. That's not what this thread is about. He's happy about his PS3, I'm happy about mine. Your happy about your standalone. Now can we please move on?

Thanks for all the replies guys. I've set up the wireless and updated the firmware. This thing is amazing! Mine is quiet as a mouse. I'm in the process of moving over my mp3 and picture collection to the hard drive. Tomorrow, we going to pick up a remote and a Blu-ray movie or two.

She definitely raised the bar as far as Valentine's Day gifts. I'm going to have to make it something special.
