Sony RDR-HX900 vs. Toshiba RD-XS35

I own a Sony RDR-HX900 DVD Recorder, which I purchased two years ago...the hard drive has failed...I took it back to Best Buy, I have the extended warranty...Best Buy now only carries one DVD recorder with a hard drive...the Toshiba RD-XS35...it also has a 160 GB hard drive, like my Sony....the specs appear to be relatively comparable...I guess I am burned by the fact that two years ago I paid $668 for the Sony, and the Toshiba, my only option for a replacement is $400...I understand the concept of electronics technology dropping in price over time...but I just want to make sure that since they are offering an even swap, because the warranty guarantees like-for-like technology and not like-for-like price...am I really getting like-for-like technology?

I have been very happy with the Sony....just want to make sure I am really getting a comparable unit....

A while back, in one of the XS35 threads, someone posted a similar issue that their Sony died and they actually ended up going through the latest Pioneer and Panasonic models before trying the XS35 and was blown away by how good the XS35 was and how neither the Panasonic or Pioneers came close, but the XS35 met or surpassed everything they were used to from their Sony.

If you do some searching you may find it, if I stumble across it I'll add it here, but I'd think in general you're getting a pretty good unit.

Yes, you are getting a unit that at least meets the features of the Sony with the same great PQ. I own both. take the 35 and be happy.
