Better Than Sony DVP-NS9100ES DVD/CD Player???

I am in the market for a CD/SACD player and wondering if there are any other players out there that sound better than the Sony DVP-NS9100ES in the same price range. The Sony DVP-NS9100ES can now be purchased new for $650 (was $1300 originally).

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I saw the Yamaha DVD-S1700 and was pretty impressed with it, can get for $400. I actually got the Oppo 981 however as it was a better value but I don't think its a better unit. Most of the other nice players I've seen are closer to $1k or more.

I'm looking for a CD/SACD player as well. If that is the new retail price for the Sony, where can you purchase it?

you may also want to check out the marantz DV7600. they can easily be had for less than $1000

If the OP just wants CD/SACD playback, he should probably consider the SA8001 instead of the DV7600. The SA8001 is still less than $1K (it is two channel only, though).
