This is what I'd like to do, and I'm not sure it can be done, or if it will be feasible. I'd like to set up a HTPC which will use the computer DVD, decode the surround channels AND be a digital active crossover.

I'm looking at an 8 channel sound card
1. 6 channels used for the two main speakers which will be 3 way active
2. 2 channels for the surround speakers (passive)

My questions:

1. Can I control the routing of each channel so that the correct decoding is happening for the correct channels?
2. How can I connect it all up?
3. How difficult is this to install?

I intend to use software for the active xo:
Allocator lite
