Just a question,

does anyone use the ZOOM feature for dvd players for anything besides p0rn? And if anyone does, what is it useful for?

You might have to use it for non-anamorphic letterboxed movies if your TV can do it.

That's what I do. I have quite a few DVDs that are letterboxed. Right now, I'm looking for a replacement DVD player (my present DVD player, the Toshiba SD-3750 can pillar-box 4:3 so it can display properly on my HDTV) that can do the same.

In the early days of DVD, some content makers thought that the anamorphic squeeze function of DVDs was a little suspect for quality. Not to mention that few TVs in the late 90's were widescreen anyway. So many DVDs that were presented in widescreen were just letterboxed in a non-anamorphic representation. Some of my early anime DVDs are like this. So when I play them, the Oppo 970s Zoom feature works very nicely.
