Hey guys, I will be moving into a new apt soon and would like to get a decent 5.1 system. I will most likely be using a Yamaha RX-V2700 Receiver. The room is approx 18'x12'. It will be used for both music and movies so i would like a good balance between the 2, nor do i want something thats too overpowering for the room itself. I am open to any and all suggestions. Thanks for the help.

Best bang/$ by going internet direct or Audiogon. Check out Ascend, Onix, Aperion, Axiom, ACI, Swan, HTD, and more. Listen to as much as you can let your ears be the judge, not this forum .

I've never auditioned the Rockets, but they seem to have good reviews and high recommendations.

Also take a look at the Ascend 340's all around.

For a subwoofer I recommend SVS subs. No matter what system you choose an SVS sub will blend in very nice.

A lot of the ID brnads give you free shipping and 30 days to audition in your home on your electronics...ideally this is better then B&M stores because auditioning anywhere other then in your own home is almost a waste of effort IMHO. Your listening room varies from the listening rooms at the stores more then likely, as well as acoustics of the room, the electronics used to drive the speaker, etc....the con to ID is the shipping hassle...

Monitor audio Silver RS 6 package.

Absolutely unbelievable uncommon value for this cost category .

Upon some quick browsing and some talks with an audiophile friend of mine the Axiom Epic 50-175 package seems to be the best bet at the moment, I will keep looking however, thanks for the input.

don't even listen to speakers you can't afford there is a chance you'll fall in love like i did with my paradigm studio 100s... good thing i don't like she sound of ML stuff.... (cept the decent sub)

i went thinking 5.1 and came back with 3.0 cause it was all i could afford at the time...
