If you do not have one, I highly
recommend the OPPO OPDV971H for 720P and 1080i upconversion. It is based upon the superb Faroudja chip and does a seemless, excellent job. You'll be able to run the Hitachi PJTX-100 in native 1280x720. You have to see what a fine job the OPPO does to believe it. The only things better are a full blown HDPC set-up or one of the expensive new HD players. The OPPO player costs $199 last time I looked. OPPO has a 1080P player that is also excellent, but doesn't have as many outputs as it is intended for a 1080P projector/plasma/LCD. Check out the OPPO web site for info and get the one that works for your situation and future plans. OPPO includes both a DVI to DVI as well as a DVI to HDMI cable with theOPD971H, BTW.
I buy standard 480P DVD's: all I can get my hands on and usually paying $5.99. I bought T2 and Total recall together for $6.99. My upconverted DVD's are so good there is no incentive to upgrade further than 720P. I project (PannyAE900U) to a 52x92 (106 diag) Da-Lite High Power and watch from 9-10 feet away. The Panny will project a scanned
1080i image (true 1080i on the cheap!) and the OPPO will deliver it. That means I am viewing over 430 pixels per square inch on a 52x92 screen. What screen door? Never seen it...not even 8 inches from the screen with a magnifying glass. There's lots of itty-bitty tiny pixels though.
