Entertainment Center help!

I don't where to find the perfect entertainment center. Maybe I can get some ideas from you guys.... I am buying the KDS-R60XBR2 LCoS Sony projection TV. 60" about 22" deep.

I have a large Bose system (older version) with a large subwoofer. I am looking for a low to the ground TV stand that can hold the TV I am buying. I would like to have one of those central compartments that houses the Subwoofer in it with the black cloth covering over it. I also want their to be shelves on the side of it. I would also like their to be a seperate matching tower with it, one that I can put away from the TV if I want. I want this to have adjustable shelves and it will hold my Cable box, PS3 and a very large receiver eventually. I would like it wood though...I don't like the ones that are metal and glass with open shelving. I would like it closed in....the hard part is finding one that has a subwoofer compartment...and a side tower for AV equipment with a glass door....

Plus I dont want to spend alot on it...any ideas where I can find something like this?

A perfect example I am looking for is the Alegro collection found here...click Collections and click the first one that says Alegro....

The only problem with that one is, for one it costs like 4000 for no reason....way over priced. And for two...I want the back board with the side shelves so I can put my speakers there...but I need at least room for a R60XBR2 LCoS screen which is around 67" wide including speaker width....

And hopefully an AV tower to go with it...

One of the issues with any furniture purchased from a store is it always entails some form of compromise.

For the new TH58px600U Panasonic, we ended up with a custom made entertainment centre. All the speakers are built in, but here you need to do some thinking.

Enclosing speakers into a wooden box will introduce vibration and boxiness sounds. If there are ports on the speaker, it is critical where they are. If in front, and not where they will bounce off walls of the unit, you are OK. If they are rear or side firing, don't enclose the speakers unless the back of the unit is open.

Subwoofers even more so. I had a Paradigm PW2200 sub with a down firing port. I have replaced it with a sealed B&W 600 unit. No ports. Otherwise , the boominess and harmonics become unbearable.

Go custom. Find a local cabinet maker, they can help out I am sure.

Good luck.

Honestly I would guess a custom job would be alot more expensive than just something premade from a webpage. But I am no expert by any means...but I can't find ANY media centers at all with a subwoofer compartment for less than 3000 dollars...that is way beyond my price range. I was hoping for around 500 bucks...

www.maxfurniture.com has a decent selection

You're not going to find anything even close to what you're looking for for 500 bucks, it seems like your expectations just aren't at all realistic. That 4,000 dollar unit may be overpriced but its not 3500+ dollars overpriced, and it doesn't (apparently) even include everything you want.

I'd avoid racksandstands.com like the plague also, their customer service is the worst I've ever experienced in my life. Plenty of people out there selling the same items for the same prices, no reason to use a company that sucks and doesn't care about their customers.

Having just finished looking for audio racks myself I think that in the price range you are looking at you have three realistic options:

1) Used Market - Look on craigslist, estate sales, and yard sales in your area
2) Think outside the box and look at flat pack cabinets for kitchens, bathrooms, etc from places like IKEA, Lowes, and Home Depot. You may be able to get something close to what you want with a little modification and combing stuff together that normally would not be combined.
3) Build it yourself.

I ended up using a 24"x24"x80" kitchen cabinet from IKEA. There is a picture of it in the last post I made in my theater thread. Add something like that with some other base cabinets mounted on legs and you may get close to want you want.

Laters,
Jeff
