I have an Infocus ScreenPlay 61md10 I bought 15 monthgs ago. A week before Super Bowl the bulb went out or so it seemed. The picture on the TV froze for about a second and the screen went blank. After waiting a minute or two I turned the set back on the picture came on but then froze and went back out. I checked the web and found the cheapest bulb replacement was around $500. It bothered me that the bulb would go out, cool off, start again, then go back out. It seemed more of a cooling problem than a bulb. I removed the bulb compartment door, wedged a folded piece of paper into the safety switch so the bulb would come on. I then used a hair dryer blowing on cool to cool the bulb and the TV stayed on.
Long story short, I found a faulty design of the wiring on the fan used to cool the bulb. The wire is wedged between the fan and a plastic or bakelite substance. The cooling fins. are on the other side of the plastic. I couldn't see the damaged but my wires were burned together under the fan. A piece of the insulation fell onto the table while I was inspecting the wiring and that led to further examination of the wire.
I replaced and rerouted the wires and now my TV works fine.
I wanted to share this because the fan, bulb, and cooling fins are all one unit on this set and I wondered how many people had replaced the entire unit at $500, when it was only a fan wiring problem. I contacted infocus and spoke to a Tech who told me he had never heard of this happening before, go figure.
If you have an infocus ScreenPlay 61md10 unit and the bulb goes out, check the fan wiring first.
