Ooops, I must be thinking of the 2007 model demonstrated at CES.

But you are right, the implementation is everything.

is there really no new info on the 3808?? does no one have any inside info on this unit??
With all the Onkyo info around, with people pre-ordering already, we need more info, Denon!!
Does anyone know if the the 3808 will happen or not? I tried to order the 3806, and no one has them in stock, so I guess I'm stuck waiting for the 3808 to materialize.

No idea on how accurate the information is.

Looks pretty consistent from what we saw at CES... isn't there supposed to be support for XM and/or Sirius and/or HD radio?
I thought I remembered a CES interview with Denon where HD Radio was mentioned. I hope they do offer it as other companies will be offering it as well. I would be willing to bet that the Denon is XM compatible but am not sure if it will be Sirius ready?

I keep checking there web site hoping that there will be info on the new receivers but no luck so far. I am hopeful that pictures and information will be up by June at the latest.
The 3808 continues to look like the machine I want. I just wonder what we will give up to go to the model below it.
4 HDMI inputs seems pretty hot!!!! 3808 seems more in my price range.

I check their site everyday too.. Even a press release of "up and coming" products would be nice. June seems too far away. Why aren't there more leaks now.. Like some pictures or a more solid release date (other then June/July timeframe).. What about pre-orders? Anything. My whole HT can't start until I have an amp. Everything is already picked out to purchase but there is no point having speakers sitting around (mocking me) without the ability to listen to them.. uhg..
I have no idea why Denon has not put the information out yet ether? They already gave out a bunch of information at CES so there competitors have a good idea what Denon is coming out with. Denon is not gaining anything by not posting the information ahead of time. Or are they afraid that people will stop buying there current offerings and wait for the new gear, possible buying someone else's gear? If I really needed a receiver now I might be getting pissed right now and buying another companies product. But since my current receiver still gets the job done and I am trying to save up for a Blu-ray player. I will have some time before I can save up the money for the receiver. I really would like to see what my options are before handing over my cash to buy my new receiver. I have boiled down my choices to Denon or Pioneer Elite with Marantz remaining an option.

That looks like info on the 4803 NOT the 3808.

The highend Onkyos will have a pretty decent upconversion (Reon). Anything like that expected from Denon?

I would think Denon would go with an Anchor Bay Tech(DVDO) product as they have already done in some of their DVD players.

Denon uses Silicon Optix processors in their DVD players -- the 2930ci uses the ReonVX and the 5910ci and 3930ci both use the higher-end Realta. In the 5910ci, Denon used the Realta for deinterlace and an ABT (DVDO) part for scaling, while the 3930ci uses the Realta for both.

Denon already said at CES that their top-of-the-line AVRs and processors would feature Silicon Optix Realta processing. No confirmation yet on what their upper-mid-range models (like the 4808) will use.

In regards to the comments about sound quality, perhaps we have just come to expect top notch sound quality from companies like Denon, and in reality when we have a 3803 or whatever that still works fine, the only reason to upgrade IS the new features which make the operation and use of our HT systems much easier or give new options that were not there before.
The Home Entertainment Show is in NYC from May 11-13. Hopefully Denon will be showing off these models off at the Grand Hyatt. I know they've had a room in previous years. If we don't get any info before then I'll be sure to give a full report.

re: the comment that the UK posting looks like a 4803...huh? This is almost exactly what I thought the 3808 was supposed to be. Units above the 3808 start adding features aimed at home networking etc.

I have a strong feeling that a 3808 will be sitting in my downstairs cabinet within 6 months.

In the meantime, I wish I could figure out how to get my Onkyo Integra to recognize dolby digital signals from units other than the DVD player again. I tried resetting it, to no avail. Any ideas how to get the digital signal processor to reset on these units?

I did not say it looks like a 4308 but the INFO looks like a 4308. For instance it says 2 HDMI output which is only on the 4308.

I am building a new home theatre room and was jazzed about the upcoming Denon 4308ci until:

1 - Speculation begain that they were going with DCDi instead of Silcon Optix upscaling (don't want the macroblocking on my Panasonic plasma)
2 - The price was going to be $2499

Why would I not want to go with the upcoming (August) Onkyo TX-NR905. It seems to have the main features of the Denon such as Dolby HD, DTS HD MA, networking, HDMI 1.3 4 in - 2 out AND a Reon VX upscaler and toriodal transformer - all for $1999. What am I missing here?

I can't get the any of the info PDFs to open at the Denon site(hangs my browser), I'd like to find out if this device provides an actual digital connection to the AVR, or is it like so many other IPod docking devices and just uses the analog output. Anyone know?

http://usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/3060.asp
Denon USA | ASD-1RBK

Finally got it it open, and what a shame, it's just like the rest of them, it's just analog only, and actually appears to be a re-badged unit you can get for around $50 most anywhere. Too bad Denon did take a step up and provide a true USB-style digital connection.

Don't a few of the current Denon AVRs actually have an IPod port under the front panel?

Keenan, I'm guessing these new models will utilize the AKP-100 cable, which will connect directly to the Ipod Port on the front panel.

http://usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/2410.asp

I believe the receivers also have a port in the rear....

Much cheaper alternative to the docking station...

Yes, that does seem like a better solution. I'm still trying to determine whether the audio is transmitted digitally though, at least for 5G IPods. The Denon outboard docking port device is clearly analog but it's unclear whether the cable solution is or not.

I'm also interested in knowing how features and quality compare between the Onkyo 905 and 875 and comparably priced Denons. The Onkyos will also have THX-Ultra 2, which Denon has not put into some upper mid-range models.

Personally I would not choose a Onkyo over a Denon as IMHO the Denon offers better quality dac's, surround modes and amplifiers. I feel the receivers that Denon has been offering for the past 6 years typically are a better value and out perform the Onkyo's. I also feel that Onkyo is not what they use to be years ago as they use to put out some stout intergrated amplifiers. I still own a Onkyo Intergra intergrated amplifier that I purchased back in 87' that is a great performer. But the Onkyo's now do not seem to be built the way they use to be. I personally prefer the Denon's over the Onkyo's any day, especially the lower models like the one my roommate wasted his money on!

As far as the DACs, Onkyo announced that its new models use the same BB DACs found in Denon's high-end receivers.

What are you talking about?

I was in no way saying that the 5805's inclusion of Faroudja's DCDi is something to get excited about. If you read the posts you would know that I was just correcting the poster while reiterating his important statement that implementation is what matters most. The Onkyo's implementation of the Reon could be horrible, decent or excellent; we don't know until people actually experience it. I clearly didn't make a statement about the quality of Denon's video processing.

Thanks for the clarification....

I don't know why I'm so impatient with this particular release. I've been waiting to get a new Preamp for about five years now but the promise of HDMI, BT, HD DVD etc have kept me from pulling the trigger. Now that the Denons look like they might have the features I've been waiting for for so long I'm going crazy.

I wish Denon would throw us a bone with some pictures or specs. Arent the units coming out in a couple of months anyways?

All we've heard is a July ETA for these two models. Assuming they aren't delayed we should hear something soon, since we're only three months away. They should be starting to ramp up production soon, no?
