The latest issue of affordable audio reviews the AV123 X-CS and compares against the CMT-340 (not sure if it's classics or SEs).

It was 340SE that the reviewer compared against the X-CS.

Nice to read, it's always interesting to hear comparisons, but as always don't take the any review as the last word.

I've never felt the need for a center channel in my home theater. My room is small (about 13x13 feet) and with mains that image as well as the x-ls, a perfectly believable phantom center emergeswhy add another box? .... What shocked me most, however, was how adding a center channel transformed my system. I learned that, in most 5.1 soundtracks, the most important stuff is reserved for the center channel. ... Much of the benefit of having a good center isn't just what it does, but what it frees up the mains to do.

He's enough of an audio nut to write reviews and he's never even tried putting in a decent center channel before? Oy.

My coworker finally recieved three AV123 X-CS speakers I suggested . We hooked them up to a Yamaha reciever and was able to listen to them for a short period. They are a very clean sounding speaker to me in that I did not think they were boomy and at all volumes they sounded crystal clear. The center channel is a bargain for the price and has a full sound which I used to only find in far more expensive speakers like a 400 dollar Polk cneter channel I liked.

The packing of the speakers was a big step over most speakers as they travel via UPs to your house. The construction was far better than what I have seen for the price at BB and CC stores. Very solid speaker and much deeper than most. There is still some more fine tuning to do but they are a great example of an internet purchase you would not regret.

Since they are not in my house I am limited to extensive listening. For the short time we switched from CDs to DVDs to cable sound the sound was well balanced .

They look real nice set into a wall unit and the finish is very close to matching the black on most TVs. The wall unit has a 50 inch Samsung Plasma and the whole combination looks well balanced and sounds very clean with three matching X-CS speakers up front.

I have to congatulate Mr. Schifter for a well made product, a great sound for the price and a drive to place high quality audio into people's home without sneering at people who do not wish to spend more on speakers than a car. I hope he has the business under good management control so he can continue to bring high quality enjoyment for people in every bracket of interest. The industry needs some common sense instead of chasing a model where you sell a 29 Dollar DVD player and with a straight face and say that you need to buy a 150 dollar cable and 39 dollar warranty to use it. The same industry can sell you a 5,000 dollar CD player and then ask you to buy a 3000 dollar DAC unit to improve the sound.

looking at AV123's offerings I do not feel out of place looking at his his high end products or the X series since I can expect the same interest in giving a consumer the same concern over achieving the best sound and quality for the price. I wish I was back in the 1970s when working at a HiFi store was fun and profitable and had these speakers to sell all day along with the rest of the line.

The x series bookshelves drivers looks similar to the totem acoustics rainmakers, but it is rated at 8 ohms. Does anyone know if it is the rainmakers tweeter and midrange?

Although I do not know which drivers Totem is using here -

That said... I would doubt it... The tweeter is really custom to us - and the woofer is a variant of a lovely driver made for us by Peerless INDIA...

All the best...

Does anyone one have any experience with these speakers? I'm looking for my first set of "real" Speakers, and seeing all the reviews, and the flat out stunning look of these speakers, they have peaked my interest. The room size is small it is 11' by 13' and paired with an Onkyo 905B. I don't want to over do it, but have no desire to skimp on sound quality. They will be used for both HD and audio. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
Have A Great Day

I spent quite a bit of time reviewing the Rocket 850s and posted my OPINION in another thread. Figured since I spent so much time typing it up I'd drop a link in this thread as well. Here it is. Long story short, I evaluated the 850s as well as B&W 704s and two Klipsch models RF-83's and RVX-54s. Well below my tasts were the B&W 6 series as well as the B&W CM series.

The 850s are fantastic speakers, as is the RSC200 center channel. I think you would like them. You should find someone who lives by you who has them who will let you come over and take a listen.
Hi Fred, and welcome. I have the 850s, RSC200, RSS300s, and RS250s. I'm very happy with the entire set.

Your room is not particularly large, so the 450 package would probably work very well. That's not to say that the 760s or 850s would be overkill. All I mean is that, IMHO, the 450 package would not disappoint.

I do hope you'll post the same thing over at the av123 forum. You'll likely receive more comprehensive responses over there.

Thank you all!
You guys are great. Scooner I did read you entire thread.lol Great job bye the way. It was very helpful. I personally am just trying to find out what my taste is. I'm not into bright or harsh, that is for sure. I hear that these are somewhat laid back, but I think it is all in ones interpretation. The more I read and listen the more I find that there are many great speakers, but like wine each individual has his own taste. I went ahead and posted on the av123 forum and will keep you posted here as well.
Thanks again!

I tried the av123 forums with no luck. First my initial post and account was deleted and now again I am having problems and can't even log on. Not sure what it could be, I have no issues anywhere else. Can only assume it is on there end. I guess i will give it one more go in the morning.

They've been having server issues for the past few weeks and they moved their server yesterday. They said there would probably be hiccups, so be patient.

They were moving their server yesterday, so you probably hit the perfect storm of bad circumstances.

Sorry about that Fred! Indeed the DB hiccuped just as you registered. I saw it and was about to reset your account when I noticed you posted so I guess everything is OK!

This thread is dead because there is such an active forum at av123. There are 73 members and 93 guests visiting as I type this. Says a lot about the company and product. I might be spending some money soon.

I have to sell my Rockets because they will not fit the design of my HT I have had them boxed for several months while I design and build the HT room, I just couldnt get the design to work with them sitting out in the open

They are for sale in the AVSforum marketplace.

The new X series photos of the floor standing speakers are now on the AV123web site. I know the AV123 guys surf this beach, so here goes.........why wait months to add poor quality pictures of you extremely beautiful real wood loudspeakers? Those pictures do not do justice to your fine cabinetry.

Mark posted pics on his forum of the diamond finish and they are beautiful.

On the AV123 forum there are tons of gorgeous photos showing the grain and finish of several woods. Put away the Barbi camera and break out the Nikon.

I'm not a member of the AV123 forum so I'm venting here.
Agreed, those photos may have started out nice but the JPEG compression killed them. Eventually I'm sure good photos of all of the finishes will make their way to the web site.

Well I finally made my decision between the KEF IQ7's and the Rocket 450's and I am pleased to say the Rockets are on the way! Now I just need to upgrade my center.

Excellent news! Please post pics when you get them.
