Need Suggestions/Advice on Theater Room

Hello. I'm new to the board. I have been actually reading for a couple months now but just registered to start posting. I've been trying to go through archives and various FAQ's to learn more before just asking a hundred questions.

We just recently moved into a new townhouse. I was given the bottom floor/room to make into a movie room/theater basically whatever I want to do with it. She got the rest of house to do whatever, fine by me Anyway I have a Samsung 46" DLP that I want to sell and now get a projector.

Background:We plan living here for another 5 years before we move. So obviously I cant get too hardcore but I don't have the money for that anyway. My budget is roughly 6 grand. I already have my DVD player, some cabling and I have a lower end Yamaha receiver and a 5.1 Polk system that I would like to upgrade. I would like the room to sound great also!

I have attached photos of the room, a drawing of the room with measurements that was done with ms paint because we haven't unpacked everything and I'm using an old laptop in meantime. The ceilings are 8', I want to take down that middle light and put recessed lighting in. I have illustrated on the diagram where I was thinking on putting the lights. I have a very good friend who is an electrician, he is going to do the work for free all I buy is the equipment. Since the room is already finished I would like to run all the speaker wire, and cabling at the sametime. There is a picture of room to the left of the hallway that is a rough-in for a 4th bathroom. I was thinking of using that to store the equipment.Should I have him run a separate circuit into the room for the projector?

What I'm asking from you is your ideas/suggestions on what would work in the room the best, equipment, design, acoustic treatment, placement, etc. I would like to hear all suggestions and ideas on what I could do with the room. Alot of you have designed incredible rooms,so you also have more of an idea of cost. Factor in my budget and living there for 5 years.

Thank You in advance for all your help!! If you need anymore information let me know!

That looks very bare. I would suggest wall mounted foam or panels (panels look nicer) on the first reflection points on the walls, bass traps in the corners (especially back), and diffusers in the ceiling. Also put absorbtion panels on the back wall if you can. Affordable panels and traps are available from places like GIK Acoustics or ATS Acoustics. The good thing is that you can bring these with you to the next place.

And, btw: when I started posting here, I came from audio engineering, where all I knew was foam; the panels you can find look a lot better for a living room :-) Get them in some nice colors.

Also I was thinking of doing two rows of seating, and building a simple riser over the carpet for the 2nd row. Any other suggestions on what you would do with the room would be great. Thanks
