building a new 15" sub... how's this box size look??

Hey everyone, I have never built a sub before but my friend has and is going to help me out... I got the Rythmik Audio 350 Watt Amplifier and a Tempest Classic 15" Driver... here is a pic of the box i'm going to build... I'm going to position the sub lower/center front and have two 3" ports near at the bottom. I will also have 3 layers of bracing as well and will have ports through all the bracing.... Sorry if my terminology is way off but I really don't know much about this stuff yet but after hearing my friends sub I knew I needed one! ;] Let me know if you guys think this setup will work well and sound nice... Thanks for any input given.

here's a pic of my GOOFY looking coworker standing next to it just after the guy from home depot did all the cuts for us...

I'm not trying to discourage you but you should've entered the T/S parameters in Winisd or Unibox. Those two programs will tell you what VOLUME size enclosure, ports, tuning you could use for the best output possible. Unless you already have used the programs. Do a search on "tempest" or ask people here who have used the Tempest and what enclosure they have.

actually my buddy that is helping me build it built a tempest sub and his hits 15hz in the enclosure he built.... he said he already did all that so it should be good hopefully it turns out well :] The only difference between the one he's helping me build and his is I have the 350 watt amp where he has the 250 watt.... and his box is not as tall as this one but it is wider to make up for the lack of height... I just really NEED 15hz after feeling what his can do... ;] i'm sure you guys understand

cool... I will take pictures for sure.... I think my post was really just a post to get others to tell me it should sound good.... I just don't want to have 400 dollars gone to a sub that doesn't meet my expectations... haha anyway I will keep this thread updated when the sub is being worked on.. I plan to start on it this sunday. I'm hoping I can get it all working sunday but I will be doing some more work next weekend as well like flush mounting the sub instead of having it popping out, and also laying black vinyl over the whole box to give it a nice black look to go with my new setup.......

Ok so the box project went pretty well over the weekend.... I still have to flush mount the sub and after I do that I will put some vinyl layover to make it match everything else (black) can't wait for that.... the driver will hit very hard I'm sure but it is defective... having the company i bought it from send a replacement. I still was able to test it but there is something lose in the driver....so it's rather annoying. Still got some really good bass from it though. Can't wait to get my room all cleaned up and setup perfectly. Here are some pictures in the works....

In the ABOVE picture you can see the mistake we made with the rotozip, it got loose while we were rotating the cut....obviously that was a horrible mistake.... seemed to cover it up quite well since my neighbor was a carpenter plus it will cover up even better when i flush mount the sub... fewph!

Thanks for all your posts and info on this site!!

Well a good start.

Man those braces are military grade. Swiss precision!

Now prime the cabinet, paint it black(at least four to five thin coats of black.

May I point using a router with a small rounding bit and round the edges.

hahahaha wasn't all that great in wood shop but the braces should get the job done... yeah it's not quite finished but i've been lagging on making it black.... wasn't sure if i should paint it or use the vinyl layover for it..... any thoughts on those two? sound wise the sub is awesome!! it hits 15hz and shakes the crap out of my house... the very first day i tested it the neighbors were calling me.... lol i now know a movie isn't only about picture quality like a lot of people think.... dd 5.1 with a nice sub to rumble the house adds so much... yes those are ED mains... i love them... working out well.... :] Thanks for the thoughts, advice and help everyone..

What did you replace with the eD mains? Were they AR's?

As for paint vs vinyl, paint requires filler and sanding, vinyl requires work itself to apply it, so take your pick.

My old mains were some junky AR's .... they got the job done but the eD's sound much nicer... :] I will look into the paint/layover options then and see which one might be better... Thanks for the help!
