Not if you view it as simply a gain in source resolution. It does allow you to utilize your full panel which achieves greater brightness and finer granularity in the image since you gain 33% more pixels, hence less image structure.
It could also be argued that with a good scaler that has few scaling artifacts there are gains to be made with image quality as well, since the additional pixels are interpolated from the existing.This discussion
