denon 1730 or 1930ci?

I'm currently "test driving" a denon 1730 and am not at all dissatisfied with the picture quality. However, I am seeing the 1930ci out of the corner of my eye for a couple hundred bucks more. Anyone know if the difference in quality is worth the extra money? If so, I'll go for it, but I don't want to get a 2% improvement for twice the money.

BTW, SACD and DVD-A are non factors for me...I'm just interested in picture and sound quality in this price range...thanks for any advice!

1930ci has multichannel audio outputs & an RS232 port in addition to SACD and DVD-Audio capabilities. If you are not interested in SACD & DVD-Audio, stay with the 1730. To get a significant increase in picture and sound quality you'd have to go with the 2930ci or 3930ci.

I guess sometimes it's tough to leave well enough alone. It's always easy to look at the next model up and think, hmm...should I? And if the biggest benefits of the upgrade are features that I won't even use, I should probably stick with what I have. Thanks for the reply...

When I bought my Denon 557 (re-badged 1730) out of the box the PQ was disappointing. Once I figured out how to setup HDMI and mode settings AND calibrated with DVE I'm loving it! PQ is the best I've seen, definately better than my Samsung upconverting recorder on my Panny PDP.

Which mode settings did you find enhanced the picture quality?

The 1930CI will be better if you don't get MB.
