I called Sceptre and asked who manufactures the panel and which video processor they use. I was told this was a company secret. The description states that it accepts 1080p thru component and hdmi, and that max pc resolution is 1920x1080 but native resolution is 1366x768. So, I asked what the resolution of the screen is and they gave me a long winded anwser without actually answering the question. Maybe I just spoke to an idiot. Maybe someone else can try to get this and other information about this tv.
Sceptre has an msrp of 1499-. I don't know what Costco's starting price will be. I know on the other Sceptre models they start below msrp. Specs look pretty good: 6ms response time and 2000:1 contrast ratio
Also, the picture of the tv on the Sceptre site looks pretty attractive.
I had the 42" 1080p Naga, but I thought the tuner and the video processor were pretty poor. I hope these are different.
I tried to do my own research into the panel manufacturer. I went to the websites of every panel manufacturer I know, but could not find anyone who manufactures a 42" lcd with the above specs.

Why bother asking Sceptre questions you already know the answers to?

Just to force them to change their advertising pitch and clarify it a bit more (since that is ONLY a 720P panel)? (nothing wrong with wanting them to be less vague!) Of course

Seems like a worthless panel, given the assumed pricepoint. The 1080P Naga makes more sense, especially now!Knowing Costco, though, if the price is mighty impressive, then this would be worth considering, given the contrast ratios! And if the scaler (both up and down) is good (unlike the Naga's rather average scaler), then it may do a good job for game consoles etc as well, ina ddition to HD movies (HDDVD or BR)

I agree with you, the price separation between this and the Naga should be more than we anticipate. Even though I was really looking to get a 47" lcd, I think if it is 3 less than the Naga, I would bite.

I had the sceptre 42" naga and had to return it due to a lot of issues with the box. Since Sceptre is or was not dealing with all the issues involved I returned it.

I see that this set is worth to try because it has a lot of updates that is not added on to the naga. I am going to order this set and try it.

Question: In the above TV description: What does they mean by:

Hybrid TV Tuner NTSC, ATSC & QAM Tuner

I am hoping that it is not a one tuner that has all three. The Vizio 32" TV has this kind of a tuner.

That is exactly what it means. You will only have one rf connection. I too would prefer separate tuners. This tv is right only at the right price, which for me is 1g or less.

Well here is a tidbit that i picked up from a friend who works for costco.
It will not be in the stores, and yes it will just meet your price request!
I think i saw that i cant list exact price somehere around here, having been a reader for a long time and waiting to but this set on the 5th i thought i would throw out what i knew.

Isn't it fairly obvious that since the panel's native is 1366x768 any 1080P resolution is actually scaled to fit the screen as in fake 1080P ?? Most likely 1366x768P since a LCD panel cannot go beyond it's native resolution. IMHO companies like SCEPTRE, VIZIO, WESTINGHOUSE probably all use the same panel from Taiwan since if they use japanese SHARP or korean LG / SAMSUNG they probably can't sell them at that price. I did a little research and the most well known taiwanese manufacturers for LCD panels are Chi Mei Optronics and AU Optronics, so it's most likely those companies that make the panels for SCEPTRE.

I'm torn between this one and the Sharp 37" at the same price.

The Sharp definitely is one of the nicer screens out there, but I think the 42" is the perfect size for our living room.

What do you guys think?

I am at the same boat. I had the sceptre 42" Naga and did not have a good luck with it. I am seriously thinking about this set but I was reading that many other lcd TV's will be out soon and thus all earlier TV's will be reduced in price.

The Samsung 40-inch LN-T4065F offers HDMI 1.3, 1080p (1,920x1,080) native resolution, and 12,000:1 contrast ratio, and "chrome accents and glossy black finish to accentuate any home.

I think that the 40-42" is the way to go because the 37" is a little in the small size.

Hi everyone. I just want to let all of you know that Costco now has the X42GV-Komodo up in their site. You can't buy it yet, but it is priced. Rather tempting.

I don't think Costco will not offer free shipping. Here is what is says on it:

Standard shipping via furniture carrier. Threshold delivery includes delivery into member's home (upwards to 2 exterior flights of stairs). Carrier will call to set up a 4-hour delivery window. Extraordinary delivery requirements may necessitate an additional fee to the carrier.

Well, I ended up getting the Sharp 37" deal last night at Costco because I'm just impatient like that. 37" actually fills up the room pretty good. Plus, the 20 day shipping for the Sceptre and not being able to see it in person really turned me off. Unless, the Sceptre turns out to be spectacular or the Sharp bites the dust in the next week or so, I'll probably stick with the Sharp.

but I think I'm gonna get this Sceptre as well only because this one has the Faroudja Technology scaler which you usually find in high-end items, also the input choices are very appealing, 2 HDMI and 2 component inputs and lastly the price is attractive, only 1K, this is at least 400-500 less than top-tier brands such as Sharp, Toshiba, Samsung, etc

BTW, just waited on hold at costco online, and was finally told that the sale price on this tv INCLUDES shipping (not all costco online televisions do). Tried to order early and the guy said no!

Where is it shipping from?

I guess I can add a membership card during checkout. If I have to pay $50 for non membership fee, i might as well pay $50 and become a member. I have a club about 35 mins away. Too bad this is on-line only?

City of Industry, California. It's part of Los Angeles County. That's where all the other Sceptre models ship from.

I have to correct myself. It's about 2 hours from where I live.

Having a Costco membership is pretty good. Even with the new return policy, it is still a pretty sweet deal. Most places you have to pay $100+ for an extended warrenty. Also, where else can I enter a place hungry and leave full. It's like there is a sample cart every 10ft.

Pulled this trigger this AM. Nice surprise that CostCo has put this up early and S/H is included.

I'm getting this to replace my 32 inch Komodo. After 3 months I've come to realize that 32 inches is too small....that and the fact that the Komodo has a buggy zoom function, 1 HDMI and a stuck pixel smack dab in the middle of the screen. Overall though I've been pretty happy with it.

I'll post a review when I get it. I'm very excited for this set!

Been there.....tried that....but thanks for the heads up!

Even the massaging the screen trick didn't work. That *&%%*& thing just won't go away! Good excuse to upgrade and return without feeling guilty........
