I ordered one last night as well, I'm hoping for the best but expecting the worse.
I've been through 2 different 50" plasmas this month. First I ordered the Geeks Vizio P50HDM Monitor refurb, With my Samsung DTB-H260F tuner the HD programing via QAM and HDMI was beautiful.
The only problem with the Vizio was that it had been burned in on the 4x3 viewing area, when you viewed 16x9 material you could see a noticeable color change from where the 4x3 screen was out to the edges of the TV. After holding for 30+ Mins. for Vizio service, I found that they would have nothing to do with repairing this refurb. I contacted Geeks and they said that they would either send out another refurb or I could return it at no charge for a full refund. Not wanting to risk another refurb, I just sent it back.
I wasn't to happy looking at the blank spot on my wall, so I started looking locally for a replacement for the Vizio. After some good reviews on here I decided on the Panasonic TH-50PX60U. I was able to find a pretty good deal on one at the local Best Buy. I figured since the Panasonic had a built in Tuner I could return the $200 Samsung set top box to defer the big price difference between the Vizio and the Panasonic. The Panasonic is a nice Tv but using the built in tuner I was very disappointed, I thought the Vizio had a much more realistic HD picture using the samsung STB. By no means did I think the Panasonic was $600 better than the Vizio. So back to Best Buy it went.
I loved both of the Plasmas Vibrant colors and deep blacks, but after seeing the burn in on the Vizio I decided to start looking at LCD's. My kids will be playing Nintendo Wii and sony PS3 on this Tv, so I really was concerned about burn in. I checked out the 52" sharp Aquos at Costco, and I loved the picture but I'm not ready to make that financial commitment yet. So I'm hoping this Sceptre will be a good stop gap until the 1080p sets start coming down in price. For under a grand, the specs on this Sceptre seem to be pretty impressive. If the Tv sucks, I'll just pack it up and return it back to costco. I'm starting to get pretty good at repacking these tv's.
