I'm chomping at the bit for a review on this thing. Anyone get their set yet?
I just found out that besbuy has the 40' JVC LT-40X667 for about 1/4 more than this Sceptre and the specs is very similar (different scaling tech used of course) so if this Sceptre doesn't work out I think I will go for the JVC since the JVC seems to be one of the top LCD panels out there
post #63 of 1535
i only found one photo posted on their website. no side views, no back views neither. of course no reomote control pics. i emailed them, and asked the pixel pitch of this TV, no reply!

This is like a mystery model. I think we are in for a dissapointment
post #65 of 1535
If you live close to a Costco then just order one and try it out, you can always return it within 90 days, nothing to lose really
post #66 of 1535
Nah. Already done that with 4 Vizio's in the last 6 months. Finally, have a V47 that I am liking. I will wait for some reviews & photos of the Komodo 42.

4 returns?

Wow ... it's hard not to be judgemental after an admission like that.

Ok, I just got confirmation that my order just got shipped. According to the tracking info, the box is 83.8 LBS. Since it's a Friday, I'll probably get it Monday. I'll post pics when it arrives.

Edit:

Hmmmm, This is strange... After reviewing the billl. I saw that Costco did not charge me for the California Electronic Waste Recycling fee and I live in Southern California. I guess Costco or Sceptre picked it up for me. Saved me $10...

Oh yeah... It said that estimated arrival is March 5.

Edit: Yeah baby ! just checked Costco site and my crappy Sceptre has been shipped, i will hook up my Sharp tonight and next week the Screptre

Estimated Arrival is Monday 5th

I currently purchased the Sharp 37" at Costco and look forward to your comparison. I am having issues with the Digital Cable channels on the Sharp being recorded properly. All of the Cable Digital Channels are being added as Channel 0.

No, never went for the V46. Just V37, V32, V42 & now V47. I did returned the other 3 within a few weeks of purchase cause of genuine problems.

The V47 is my main TV downstairs. I want to get something for the loft for the PC primary source & PIP OTA. This one fits the bill & I will get it after I see some more info posted.

If not, I may end up getting a Samsung 6188 or Sont 60A200 for downstairs & move the V47 in the office/loft. Cheers.

My scheduled delivery date is set for the 8th. I am in Ohio so that is why the longer delivery time. You guys who are getting yours on Monday and Tuesday make sure you post your findings with yout TV ASAP. Doing that might give me a chance to refuse delivery if I have to.

I purchased the Hitachi 42" from Circuit City 2 weeks ago but that unit had a problem with Overheating and screen changing colors and the left speaker popping after 30mins of watching. So Yesterday I returned it.

I saw the deal on the Sceptre 42" and figure what the heck. for $1050 I can have it delivered, have 90 days to run it through its paces.

The Hitachi dropped $300 in price in the last 2 weeks. At that rate, the Sharp 42" 1080P maybe around $1300 in 90 days . I think its worth a shot to try this guy out and give it a fair chance. Will update next week when it arrives.

a little off topic...

So you kept the vizio 47 ... what's your thoughts about it beside "liking it"

thanks

Ordered last night, confirmed this morning, shipped this afternoon, will be delivered on Monday (3/5) . The set was picked up at Ontario, CA, 20 miles from my home. I will post some pics when receive it. But don't know how to upload or link those pics to here.

I ordered one last night as well, I'm hoping for the best but expecting the worse.

I've been through 2 different 50" plasmas this month. First I ordered the Geeks Vizio P50HDM Monitor refurb, With my Samsung DTB-H260F tuner the HD programing via QAM and HDMI was beautiful.

The only problem with the Vizio was that it had been burned in on the 4x3 viewing area, when you viewed 16x9 material you could see a noticeable color change from where the 4x3 screen was out to the edges of the TV. After holding for 30+ Mins. for Vizio service, I found that they would have nothing to do with repairing this refurb. I contacted Geeks and they said that they would either send out another refurb or I could return it at no charge for a full refund. Not wanting to risk another refurb, I just sent it back.

I wasn't to happy looking at the blank spot on my wall, so I started looking locally for a replacement for the Vizio. After some good reviews on here I decided on the Panasonic TH-50PX60U. I was able to find a pretty good deal on one at the local Best Buy. I figured since the Panasonic had a built in Tuner I could return the $200 Samsung set top box to defer the big price difference between the Vizio and the Panasonic. The Panasonic is a nice Tv but using the built in tuner I was very disappointed, I thought the Vizio had a much more realistic HD picture using the samsung STB. By no means did I think the Panasonic was $600 better than the Vizio. So back to Best Buy it went.

I loved both of the Plasmas Vibrant colors and deep blacks, but after seeing the burn in on the Vizio I decided to start looking at LCD's. My kids will be playing Nintendo Wii and sony PS3 on this Tv, so I really was concerned about burn in. I checked out the 52" sharp Aquos at Costco, and I loved the picture but I'm not ready to make that financial commitment yet. So I'm hoping this Sceptre will be a good stop gap until the 1080p sets start coming down in price. For under a grand, the specs on this Sceptre seem to be pretty impressive. If the Tv sucks, I'll just pack it up and return it back to costco. I'm starting to get pretty good at repacking these tv's.

HD OTA & PC PQ looks great. PIP function lets me surf the net on the big screen & watch Digital TV in a small box on the right side. Even some of the big names, Sharp, Samsung don't have that function.

SD PQ is not that good from my Dish STB & I am planning to buy a Geffen Home Theatre Scaler which may help. Sound is bearable for regular watching but I use my HTIB for movies, soundstage etc.........

Just ordered mine as well. Nothing to lose, really. If it arrives and I don't like it after a few weeks. I'll simply return it and pick up the visio LCD from costco before the return policy changes on the east coast...

Of course, it helps that a costco warehouse is about 6 miles from my house. I wouldn't be buying this set without the 90-day unconditional return period and a local store to take the return.

Is the tuner external like the Naga?

Nope, it's internal. One of the things I will test the new hybrid tuner they have in this one.

Edit : Come to think of it, I wonder if the external audio/video component is really necessary to the Naga model if they could have done it all internal.

Hi....just thought I would jump in and ask a couple questions. Just found the forum here while googling this TV.

I get the feeling from reading some of your comments that the 1080p is not really applicable regarding this TV. Is it not true 1080p? Or did I misinterpret a couple of your comments? I will be interested in seeing if their remote is backlit when you get your sets. I live in the dark and need that if possible.

I have been a Sony guy all my life and have never had one problem or failure with any purchase, TV or otherwise. I have had some for 20 years with no problems. You all seem to know the techie particulars about all the modern terms associated with HDTV. I do not, but wonder why you all don't seem to be concerned about buying off brands that don't seem to offer the service or support of others.

Is Sceptre known by techies to be a good brand? Or is it just price you all are shopping for? I am disabled and on such a limited budget, that I can't afford the top tiers any longer, but am not used to buying brands I have never heard much of. I would appreciate your thoughts and feelings on this.

Being disabled I am not really up for taking 2 or 3 TVs back to the retailer in hopes I get lucky and find a good cheap one. With this newer technology is it all just a cr*p shoot now no matter matter brand you buy?

One more question: Do you have to pay tax when ordering from Costco over internet?

Thanks for your input and all the interesting posts already submitted.

Can you give me a bit more info on this new hybrid tuner? I have the Naga currently but will be taking it back to Costco as it has definate 'issues'. I am thinking of order either two of these, or one Vizio and one of these. The reason that I am interested in the new tuner is that the 2nd set will not be hooked up through a cable box.

Does this have Firmware that is upgradeable via USB or some other way as many of the new ones do?
Second question is the screen matte or glossy as to reflect sharp image?

Well after mulling it over I pulled the trigger tonight and bought the X42GV-Komodo I mean you can't go wrong at [EDIT] shipped. I just also bought an LG 42PC3D at Best Buy for a steal that is my primary TV for in my living room but it's a plasma...I do alot of gaming and well needless to say my wife isn't too fond of my 360 so playing in the living room is getting old. Plus I am worried about burn in when I play 12 hrs of Halo 3 when it comes out. I don't need my HUD burned in.

So I'm getting the LCD for downstairs in "MANTOWN". I figured 90 days if I'm not happy with it and if worse comes to worse I can pick up something different.

We'll see next week!

I have never heard of Sceptre before and I haven't seen alot of reviews on their products how have people's experiences been with them? Any comments

What is the average power consumption of this TV?
Apparently it take a week to get from Ontario to North Carolina. Should have mine on the 8th... plenty of time to pick up a stand and get the new cable box.
^ And just in time for the ACC tourney. Hoping that mine arrives in Clayton by Friday...
I can't wait to see the pics and reviews of this thing on Monday!

If it lives up to the hype, I'll be clearing a space on the wall for it.

Which wall mount would you guys recommend? I need it to tilt down and price is important.
