In reply to what other Denon combinations others are running the Betas with..
Currently I have :
2 channel stereo
Mcintosh Mx110 tubed tuner preamp ..mid 60's (refurbished)
Denon poa 2200 power ss amp 200/ch mid 80's
Ah !! Njoe Tjube 4000 tubed cd player
My walls behind speakers have small area carpets to help control
reflections that would tend to smear mids and trebles (does help)
and on the cheap to boot. Only the wall areas behind and adjoining the
speakers are so.
Like some folks..never did get to hear before buying ..simply the local
store had them but no one interested in demoing... so I purchased through
audiovideo source great price ...
Some recordings are just flat out bright..but not harsh..I have a Wynton Marsalis
Standard Time jazz cd that the overall timbral balance and solidity of
of instruments from cymbals, snares, trumpet, piano and bass are tonally
right. Columbia label got it right..this album is really lets you know the beta
50s can do music .. while DMP productions Tricycle is generally bright but is a
great demo of transients attacks and decays...but seems thin sounding at
GRP jazz sampler 1, Cinemagic, Mountain Dance (Dave Grusin) wonderful
compositions from strong passages to delicate quiet fade aways
the Betas deliver.
Brian Doerksen's album Today vocals and harmonies flesh out very well
The I'm Amazed album, Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir ( 100 voice plus symphony and
contemporary) vocal tenor alto soprano parts are tremendously well staged.
All this to say the Beta 50s can and do sing the music from the delicate
nuances to large scale vocals with sympnony and don't seem to skip a beat...
But here is something that might be of interest...while viewing the Sonus Faber
web site ( very expensive ) I noticed that their speakers were canted or tilted
back some 5-8 degrees ..so for the fun of it decided to give it a try...(btw my
Betas are spiked using the ones included) so raising the front of them about
1.75" about 8 degrees seemed to me to "open up" the mids and highs revealing
more detail than before..All this I know is subjective but it is how I hear it.
So how does older ( other ) Denon gear work with the Beta 50s ?
I find speaker placement .. positioning helps get the most out of them.
Mine are used as 2ch stereo only.
As far as center channel phantoms ocuring with out center channel
speakers pretty neat ... 2 channel stereo should be able to replicate
center w/o speakers and also vertical lateral and front to back spatial
No sub as yet
Here is some interesting readinghttp://www.audioperfectionist.com/PD...journal2rh.pdf
Hope all this helps
