Is Amazon prime worth the money for just ordering HD discs? - Page 2

It was great for during the 3 month free trial. However, since I have Netflix, I buy a lot less and can wait for those that I do buy to show up. Qualifying for free shipping at $25 has never really been much of a problem either. Prime is certainly more convenient and faster. If it wasn't for Netflix, I'd have signed up for Prime already, but for now, I'll spend the $79 on 3-4 HD titles or 4 months of Netflix instead.

Now if Amazon lowers the price....

Yep, it's a no-brainer for me.

I recently got Prime and am actually getting a bit annoyed with it, though that is mostly do to my own fault of not researching some of these things a bit further.

The cheap overnight shipping cost applies per item, not per order. So if I order an HD-DVD I can pay $1.99 for overnight shipping. If I order three copies of that same HD-DVD in the same order overnight shipping is 6 bucks, even though they're just throwing the other two copies into the same box as the first.

Also, Saturday and Sunday both do not count as a shipping day for Prime whereas it seems most places only don't count Sunday. This means if you order something with overnight shipping on Thursday night, you don't get it until Monday. If you order something with 2-day shipping on Wednesday night, you don't get it until Monday. Etc.

For the free two-day shipping if you're ordering early in the week though it's great, and they shipped out my copy of The Departed on Monday meaning I got it the day after release which was nice, but for $80 the other things I mentioned above can be a bit frustrating, like paying an extra 4 bucks for them to essentially place two 4oz discs into a box that they were already packaging up anyway.

I thought it was $4. I admit, I only tried it a few times, and the orders were single units. I did get my Oppo DVD player shipped O/N for $4. That's not bad.

Saterdays and Sundays do not count for UPS shipping anyways( 1, 2, or 3 day shipping). Prime doesn't change that, but that's UPS's policy, not Amazon's.

Also depends on where you live, I've gotten quite a few packages with 1 day delivery time (ie, placed order monday night, shipped tuesday, received wednesday).

If you just order HD DVDs, then it's probably not worth it, unless you order A LOT. However, Amazon Prime was an excellent deal for me because I signed up and received a $50 gift cert for their new grocery section, not a bad deal.

Any of you noticed this happening? Prices increasing just for you because you signed up for Amazon Prime?

I have also noticed that Amazon has started to raise the prices on items that are available in the Prime program, probably in response to the increasing pressure to curtail the costs of this program. Even worse, I even found that when I logged in from another machine, the prices DID NOT increase for my anonymous shopper, which was very discouraging.

I haven't done a ton of research on this, but does Prime only apply to "new" items from Amazon?* Can it be used with the "StoreFront"/Used purchases?

*I've never ordered anything from Amazon...

Buy.com
Newegg
Geeks
Overstock.com, etc.

but never Amazon

When i had my Prime membership I never noticed a price difference between the "non Prime" and the Prime prices. I used it mainly for HD DVDs and all the prices where the same as if I as a "regular" member.

I think its totally worth it. Between the amount of books,cd's & dvd's I order, I don't know how Amazon is making money. Sometimes I get things next day even though its 2 day.

Not worth it for me, but only because I get my items shipped super fast anyway! The stuff almost always arrives in 3 or 4 days even with the free shipping option.
