Toshiba 62hm196 setup question

I have had this set for a week or so and I am still tweaking the settings. I was wondering if anyone knew what settings worked best.

The settings I have a tough time deciding on are:

Dynamic contrast(looks real good on, but blacks lose detail)

Mpeg Noise Reduction(whats this used for, whats the best setting?? I noticed it removes some noise from the picture, but not sure if I should just leave it offf or only use for SD??).

Forget the option, but you can choose Film or Video, whats does this do??

Also, calibrating this set with video essentials(not digital ve), to match the color bars I have to set color up to 85!! Red looks saturated at this point. Is this because the disc is 4:3 and effecting the video?? Do I need to use another calibrating disc that is made for 16:9 digital??

One more question, using an OTA antenna, how do I get the set to recognize OTA HD channels?? Thanks a lot!!

I've gone back and forth with this feature and have decided to leave it on. For HD programs it really improves the depth, but for SD I agree it can lose some dark details. Although the manual states otherwise, I have found that Contrast does affect the DC operation, so I set Contrast higher at around 70-75 to compensate.

This is for SD only - it is greyed out on HD channels. I set it to HIGH as it cleans up some of the lower bandwidth SD channels that have more artifacts.

From what I understand this is for the component inputs (i.e. DVD). It's recommended to set this to Film for a smoother rendering of those sources.

I can't comment on using that calibration disk but I have color at about 60 and find a good balance. The channels and often individual programs have different qualities.

For the OTA, go to your SETUP/INSTALLATION menu and go into Channel Program. Run it on your OTA input and it will identify all available channels including HD.

Awesome, thank you soooo much. I am the type of person who things like this drive me crazy. I feel a lot better now knowing what those options are offering. I think dynamic contrast gives the picture a much more 3d look, but I read other posters saying to turn it off, so I second guess myself.
