BEST way to keep informed is to sign up for the Owners Circle. That way if there are any updates or upgrades we'll let you know instead of having to call us and guess, or say "you heard from a friend who heard from a guy, who knows a guy"... ya know?
Believe me guys, Marantz knows of any issues, lpcm 7.1 included, that are out there, and we'll take care of them for you. Keep in mind that a set policies & procedures needs to be in place for every update & upgrade or "fix" that we have.
Unfortunately sometimes these things take a little more time that you, or even we, would like.
I promise you guys will know. Heck, they way this site seems to work, you'll probably know before me!
Again, best way to know whats going on is to sign up for the Owner's Circle
Guys, please try and remember that I am doing this as just another added level of support, but should not be relied upon to check the website at a regular basis. Any pressing issues should go to our Customer Service or Tech Support guys.
Thanks, and as always, keep up the good buzz!!
I also do not currently own an SR7001 or SR8001, but those are the units I am interested in.........
My problem is I am replacing a Pioneer Elite 84TXsi that has HDMI issues with my particular setup (HDMI HD-DVD source playing through receiver to DVI/M1 equipped InFocus 720p projector). When connected directly to the projector I can select 1080i output from the HD-DVD player (as this is currently the best resolution from Toshiba's scaler). However, when I run the signal through the Pioneer it sees a smaller EDID data block than it is expecting (DVI uses a smaller data block than HDMI does) and only passes the primary display frequency of 720p... which then locks my HD-DVD player to 720p output which as I mentioned is a bit substandard to it's 1080i output. Now those of us in the Pioneer world have just waited 10 months for a firmware update which finally was made available, but in a horribly inconvenient manner (I won't go into the details but trust me it is extremely ugly). And it did not address my problem. Pioneer has acknowledged that my problem exists but has stated they have no plans to correct their firmware as there are not enough people with my problem complaining.
So now I am seeking a replacement but I am trying to find an AVR without HDMI issues if at all possible! If not, at least one that can be updated without a great deal of pain... Toshiba has lead the way with their HD-DVD players... it has an ethernet connection on the back and you just plug it into your home network and select "update" from the maintenance menu.... now when is everyone else going to make it this simple??? This has to be the easiest both for the manufacturer and the end user... a win - win situation... what could be better!
Anyway so far Marantz seems to have fewer HDMI issues than the other AVR's I have been reading up on... perhaps because you do not do any scaling...but is not without a few of their own glitches.
As I have a 7.1 system and want to be able to make full use of it with 7.1 titles or be able to take a 5.1 signal and overlay DPXII processing so all the speakers are used I too am concerned about HOW and WHEN a firmware update to the 7001/8001 will be made available. It is encouraging that you say you will not forget your owners and that you will offer an update..., but could you possibly share with us HOW this will be accomplished and WHEN we might potentially expect to see this update?????
We do realize you have more to do than hang around here all day and answer questions and do appreciate your presence...... but if you could help us out with the HOW and WHEN of the update process many many many folks here would be quite thrilled!
