Marantz wants me to send it in to their main service center in Illinois. I'm trying to get them to replace it so I don't have to dump some serious money on air freight back and forth, plus at least six weeks of down time. It gets expensive shipping things back and forth to Alaska. It's all second day air. And second day air to me in really more like ten days. - the inconveniences of living with the bears and otters in the wilderness.
Depending on what is causing this shut down issue, you may or may not be out of the woods. It would depend on what's causing it. Or, it may just be a coincidence that two of us are reporting this problem. But then again, I never did put much faith in coincidences.
Well it's been a couple weeks and the problem manifested into a complete shut down without letting me re-start it last night.
The unit would shut down. I'd hit the on button and it would try to start, but the message CHECK POW5 would display and the power light would blink. After ten minutes or so, I could re-start it. Ten minutes later, down it went again. Same thing, same restart process.
I called Marantz Tech this morning and was told to pull all the speaker wires. Knowing it wasn't the speakers, I still obliged. The stupid thing wouldn't shut down for nothing this time. I start plugging wires back in one at a time, waiting twenty minutes between each speaker. Nothing, it kept playing without issue. So I call Tech back and get someone else. This guy tells me, oh ya, that's an internal problem and you need to send it in. Good grieffour hours of playing with speakers when this error message is a known internal problem identifier.
I was also told that Marantz will not exchange this unit, and I get to pay to send it to Spokane..only $100. At least they send it back to me on their dime.
I'm not happy with Marantz over this issue. Over the past six weeks I've been handed back and forth and promised that the Service Manager would contact me. Nothing. Notta.
I will not be buying another Marantz product. They can go to hell. I have been nothing but supportive to Marnatz and AVS until now. Sure is funny how helpful folks are until you give out that credit card number, then it's who are you?.
Now I'm looking for a cheap back up AVR seeing how my luck with receivers sucks and there just isn't suck a thing as customer service anymore.
Oh, and stop holding your breath for a firmware update. The service center has no (ZERO) information on one for the 8001 or any other SR.
