I looked at the XM5 adapter but the person at myradiostore told me that I would have to keep the samsung helix in the trunk of the car since the XM5 adapter doesn't have long wires.
I just received my car dock today for my Samsung Helix. I got the Pioneer Inno Car Kit2 from Amazon.com. I took out the car kit base dock and hooked it up as a home dock (using the power adapter and XM antenna from the home dock). Plugged in my Helix. It fits snug in the slot but it can be tilted forward, so that is what I guess people mean when they say it is not a snug fit. It is a snug fit, just that that it is not locked into place by any tabs anywhere.
As for the FM modulator on this unit, all I can say is WOW! It is not a weak FM transmitter! It broadcasts all over my two story house! Unlike my Sirius Stiletto S100 which only broadcasts a few feet away, the Samsung Helix is much stronger. I don't know how you are getting weak signal from your car installation, unless there are differences between bases and units. You said you had the original Samsung car dock, I have the new Pioneer Inno2 Car dock with SureConnect (whatever that gimmick is). I did not even use the SureConnect Cable or whatever it is yet (all the parts are still in the new box!) I only took out the car dock part and using it indoors for now. It is broadcasting FM signal from my first floor living room all the way up to my rooftop antenna! I would say my next door neighbors will be able to receive my XM radio Helix broadcasts if they knew where to tune in to. Gotta love it... and I only paid $99 plus shipping for this Samsung Helix... it used to cost $299 to $399 when it came out last year? Dang! As for sound quality, it is okay, just okay. My Polk XRT-12 XM Reference tuner sounds the best (both line out and optical out). No XM Radio I have heard sounds better than the Polk component tuner, not even the Helix nor Inno. Sirius Stiletto has a better sound overall IMHO than the Helix, but still cannot match the audio SQ I can get with the Polk XM tuner.
I have yet to crack open my car dock to compare with my home dock to see what enables the FM modulator to work on the car dock and not the home dock. By the way, if you plug in the line out audio jack to feed your stereo direct from, the car dock, it disables the FM modulator. You have to leave the line out jack unplugged to use the FM transmitter feature. That's all for now.
