Please Help! Anyone heard of old "Cygnus" brand (or model) speakers???

I am asking for assistance from anyone in "the know".

I have the opportunity to buy what are large floorstanding speakers, perhaps 40 to 48" tall.

They appear to have about 12 to 15" main woofers with about 11 to 13" passive radiators below the woofers.

Immediately above the main woofer on the upper left is a mid woofer - perhaps 5 or 6" and immediately above the main woofer and to the right are two tweeters - perhaps 2" each (not dome style - cone style).

There are two control knobs in between the tweeters and the mid-woofer (above the main 12 to 15" woofer.

All the listing says is "Cygnus brand".

Googled Cygnus and only possible relationship I could potentially establish is to the Italian speaker manufacturer "Chario". Can anyone help me here? These things are huge, and I would be taking them home on a bus. I don't want to pick them up unless it is worth it. Thank you!

Based on the driver description in the following review, the ones you are looking at are probably NOT from Chario:

Here is another pair of "Cygnus" speakers that are clearly NOT the ones you are asking about:

Are you considering an offer that's too good to be true? Beware of the very common scam known as "white van speakers". The same basic scam can be run in many different ways, and there is often some amount of semi-official marketing materials (packaging, badging, literature, web site) to make it look legit. Or rather, it is often not truly illegal, but they make it look like you are getting a good deal on really expensive equipment when all you are really getting is crap. Buyer beware. If you are unfamiliar with the phrase "white van speakers", you should definitely educate yourself about this phenomenon before you purchase any speakers under unusual circumstances.

Or, they might just be some old Japanese-style Super Speakers from the huge-woofer, lots-of-paper-cones era. Or perhaps ones from a "white van" speaker company operating in that time period.

If they truly are good speakers from the past, someone on here should probably have some kind of recollection of their existence, and will hopefully post about it.

Thank you for your input, maxcooper.

I don't have pics, "Confusedsoul", as the listing is in an online classified adspace and the image was uploaded to the space.

What I was thinking was that perhaps the speakers I saw were an early model of the Cygnus and were just so old that there was nothing on the web about them (it wouldn't be the first time....)

The speakers are reminescent of the Japanese huge paper cone types you alluded to, maxcooper, but also remind me somewhat of (even recent) white van speakers I have seen in my area.

The difference is that these speakers (at least from what I can see of them in the poor pics) look old, whereas most of the white van speakers we see around my area look new.

The guy only wants $25 for the pair, so I figure the worst thing is I could waste $25 if they turn out to be white van speakers. On the other hand, I am already cramped for space, and really don't want to bring anything else home unless it is of value to me.

If I get a chance, I will try to go look at the speakers "up close and personal".
