I bet the R-505 would be a great choice. A colleague of mine has the 505 paired with Dynaudio Focus 110 monitors and it's a wonderful combination. If I hadn't got such a great floor demo price on the ML Depth-i, I would have probably auditioned something in the REL R range too. Can you get an in home audition to see how it blends in?

On another note the Stradas are giving quite a convincing impression of piano on Radiohead's 'Last Flowers'. Absolutely gorgeous leading edge to the piano key strikes in the opening few notes- they just hang in air so nicely. These little things do piano in such a tactile way.

well i have taken a plunge of faith and ordered a less known name. bk monolith plus... after talking to one of there men and him telling me they used to make rels subs and a couple of other more known brands untill they decided to cut costs i suppose and have em made in china or where ever. the bk,s are still completely hand built in england using british made components.hope i dont regret it.pretty sure i wont though. cant wait now

I have not visited in a while, so please allow me to cover a few past 3.1 RnR posts?

Currently I am using a MC402 power amp, C46 pre and mono SA amps.

The mac amp is an over-achiever and can bend the needles at 800watts under drunked duress (and hearing protection). With the 600wpc sub amps cranking that well over 2kw in a smallish room.

Currently seeking a bigger house and listening room, LOL!

The 3.1's finally had given their all, as I got some breakup at the upper levels, I just had to find out how much good power they could handle.
So in case you wondered, it seems to be about 1500 watts.

Yes, a seperate sub would be better, or 2, if the placement can be done well.

The point source bass is great, don't get me wrong, but the little sealed drum woofer can only do so much. I still say it is the same bass driver as JL audio unit.

As for slabs for the Gallo's, I got these custom made...

Hey nuck, what are the "these" that you refer to?

We are experiencing technical difficulties, this is a problem on our end. Please do not adjust your set, and standby.

Oh OK, so the phantom error messages were just a phyche. Classic head-mess to fake you out of the game. HA!

Here are a few more of the 2" mill maple laminated slabs that I got on a tradeoff deal, handmade and custom ordered by the owner of the upper NY mills himself.

karma baby!

The lower supports (teleposts) under the speakers really add a lot..like forever!

The lower floor really has to be considered.

The support for the 8T server and 4lb(8 amps!) power supply is an old cutting board, sanitized. The other 3 pcs are new.

cheers lads!

Thanks, Barry!

I think I dig the gear nearly as much as the tunes sometimes.

Oh well!

Currently seeking another 402 to balance things out.

The Mac/gallo thing goes back to my buddy who had a MC7300 amp with a Rogue99 Magnum pre (outstanding phono and headphones).
A set-up lp12 and Senn 840 headphones.

The speakers really caught my ear in his large treated room.

I just carried on from there, while my friend went to MC40 tube amps.

I recently bought an Anthony gallo speaker system brand new off craigslist for a mere $550.
It's the nucleus micro 5.1 box with the tr-1 sub.
I haven't gone to pick them up yet but I'm wondering if I got a good deal. Do they sound good? Also, he said he would include an extra sub (the MPS150) for $220 in addition to the tr-1 sub: http://www.anthonygallo.co.uk/pages/...ers-mps150.php
What do you guys think I should do and do these speakers sound good? I was in the market for a new surround sound system and I was going to go with a bose lifestyle but my friend told me they sucked and recommended Gallo speakers. They look really nice and I hope they sound good. Also, is there a major difference between this system and the newer gallo ti speakers?

it502..
Let me recap...

You bought something without a demo.
You are posting on a particular speaker fan forum.
You are asking if you did ok, and better than bose?

You are validated in your purchase, but now how about your source?

Sorry, I meant to say that I'm considering getting them. The source is a reputable audio store so I'm not worried about that.

I believe what nuck was saying is that yes, the Nucleus Micros are superior to Bose. But what wiill you use to power and feed them?

Hey guys,

Not to disrupt the speaker discussion, but I wanted to let you know that Anthony Gallo Acoustics is now on Twitter.

If you are on Twitter as well, follow us @AGASpeakers

Ok, that's all for now. Thanks!

Reference 3.5 owners: Is anyone using any kind of stand with them to raise them off the floor any? Since Anthony changed the bases on the 3.5's and uses a "gel" bottom to help decouple the speakers from the floor I'm guessing spike systems can't be added . . . or can they? Just curious - thanks. It's no particular problem. I'd just like to raise the bases above the carpet a tad and am looking for options.

For those looking at power, I currently have the 3.5's paired with my Wyred 4 Sound STi-500 integrated amp which seems to be a very nice combination. They certainly do like power more than my Acoustic Zen Adagios, for what that's worth. Great speakers - without a doubt. After several months they've settled in - I definitely haven't tired of them which can sometimes (frequently??) happen with new purchases - they're here to stay!!

Hey Johzel, I'm pretty sure that a sub-plinth is available that is made from the same phenolic material as the 3.5 base but it's larger. They're intended for exactly your situation, putting the 3.5 down on carpet. I believe Srajan mentions them in his review of the 3.5 on 6moons.

P.S. Here's a picture from the 6moons review...

It also links the the page in the review where they're mentioned.

Hey . . . thanks a bunch!! Appreciate the help.

Nice to hear, I just purchased the Wyred 4 Sound ST-500 power amp but waiting delivery (maybe another week). I have the Ref 3.1s, still can't justify the upgrade price at the moment.

Thought I'd share a pic of my recent purchase, the Stradas / Depth-i sub.

cn11, you live in a converted warehouse or something?
The exposed monochromatic painted electrics and monochrome brick look.

When I move next year, I may build a big room to LOOK like what you have there, I love the look so much.

Very nice, my friend!

Ordered 3.5 inclusive of SA amp for LR and Strada's for C and surrounds.
Looking at W4S STI-500 to power 3.5's. Any advise on interconnects and speaker cables used by current owners? Thanks for inputs

Anybody know what Antony is showing at the RMAF this weekend?

How do you integrate and integrated amp into a HT? Does it have a HT bypass? I just never heard of this feature on an integrated amp.

I just purchased the W4S ST 500 power amp which I will pick up on Wednesday, it is waiting for me but I am not in town
