post #1 of 11
Thread Starter
A friend of mine has Directv and wants to get HD Tivo and right now he has what looks to be a modulated set-up through out the house off of 2 Directv receivers.
Any suggestions?

is there a wireless solution for this? I know Terk used to make a version that used just regular composite but I was looking for a similar solution that wouldn't have me drilling into walls.

I don't want to watch an HD feed I just want to be able to watch tv in my bedroom using component

I want to share a direct tivo HD with two tv's , one would be hooked up through HDMI the other would be through component

I would resort to buying two direct tivo HD's but unforunately you can't share programming between the two

are there any other solutions?

thanks

If you hack your HR10-250 DirecTiVo you MAY be able to enable both HDMI and component output at the same time. I think at some point they added a hardware as well as a software restraint to concurrently enabling both so that some people who have older models have been able to do the software hack to get both outputs displaying at the same time. I have hacked all 3 of my HR10-250's and wasn't able to enable the concurrent output on any of them.

I will be using this in my new home:
http://www.onqlegrand.com/jahia/Jahia/pid/1023

I have 4 HD DTV Sat Receivers that I will be placing in my distro closet To each room, I am running 3 RG6u (Y/B/R) and 1 CAT 5 that will support L/R Audio. I get two Sat Inputs per receiver to support concurrent Live Sat and Tivo Recording.

Hope this helps.

Ed:

You do know that is the multiswitch for the current DirecTv HD systems and will not work with the newer MPEG4 systems that are being phased in now. WIth all of the new HD coming to the new system and no commitment from DTV that the current HD will not be moved, you might want to give this all some thought.

Hi Todd;

Good question. I was concerned about this so I called DirecTV and asked them. I was not only concerned about the new compression format but also the new 5LMB dishes that are being phased it. The tech said that it would work for both. The new 5LMBs still result in for RG6 lines coming into the home.

Well the tech is wrong! The new 5 LNB dishes require Wideband Multiswitches like this.....

What 5 lnb dishes are being phased out? I thought the 5 lnb slimline was the newest one they offered. If so, what is the replacement?

Hey Todd;

Thank you "dittos" for this reply and the recommended solution. As I am sure you are aware, "juse get wat juse get", when calling a tech support line. One of the great things about our business is the concept of plug and play. I will plan to replace the previous OnQ unit with this new one. In the mean time, I will drive a reflective response from the DirectTV team on this issue.

in terms of distributing HD from one STB to several TV's through out your home currently it is extreamly expensive.

There are NO wireless solutions on the market yet. With the on set of 802.11N and MIMO technologies, and Ultra wide band you will soon start to see wireless HDMI and such but currently there is nothing on the market that works.

Now with that said there are several things you could do, first a component video, you can get a distribution amp like this: http://www.smarthome.com/8145h.html

one component video source will feed 5 different TV's, things like these are what Best Buy, Circuit City, ect... will use to distribute component HD video to several TVs.

For HDMI you can use the same concept and use a HDMI splitter, however they are expensive as crap, here's a 2 x splitter: http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...ormat=2&style=

then you've got even more expensive HDTV distribution kits like these: http://www.smarthome.com/77707k.html

whats nice about the above kit, is it uses cat5 to distribute the hd video instead of a having to run component or hdmi cables you can use cheaper cat5 which is much easier to run.

so there are many things out there you can do, it just depends on how much time, effort and $$$$$$ you have.
