Full range towers vs. monitors ? (Onix)

Thread Starter
I'm searching for speaker upgrades and like the Onix Reference line so far. For no good reason, I like towers and full range mains.

But I'm wondering if I really need full range speakers, given that I have two SVS PB12 +/2 subs, which I really bought for HT.

I'm considering for the first time that I may be just fine with monitors up front but fear I'll lose something by going that route. Why, I don't know, its just a fear/hunch that I think is probably incorrect.

I watch a lot of HT, but I also listen to a lot of multichannel and 2 channel music on the same system. I'd nudge my system in the direction of music vs. HT and it wouldn't bother me, as musical reproduction is becoming more important to me.

Would you please give me your thoughts on this?

Thanks

edit...nevermind, I see this post has a long history of repeats - found lots of them and lots of opinions further down.

How far up in the Ref line do you want to go? With most brands, I would say you would be fine with the 2 subs and go with the monitors. Up the Ref line, you gain a super tweeter in the 1.8, and 7" woofers in the Ref 3. Those would be differences that the sub might not be able to help with.

I own the Ref 1, and do not feel that the bass is lacking in 90% of music. I have an HSU sub, and keep it off for music. If I could afford it, I would love to have the midrange of those 7" woofers and the highs out of that ribbon tweeter in the Ref 3.
