Any way to get NR over HDMI for Panny 37"

Hi,

I have a VP50 and my bedroom tv is a Panasonic Th37PHD8UK that has a 7th gen HDMI card. Are there any settings that will allow the panny to do Native Rate via HDMI? I use HDMI because I use it for audio as well as picture. I know the DVI card works (have seen it mentioned before). Can anyone suggest some setting to try for HDMI card?

Thanks

If I remember correctly, your display's native resolution is 1024x720. Also, the TY-FB7H blade does not suport AFAIK 1024x720 signals but accepts 720p. I guess you should be quite ok using 720p out from the VP50 under these circumstances, since the display pixels are anamorphic (nonsquare) anyway.

How do i find out what signals the card will accept?

I could not find the manual on the net (my old links are no longer working), but you can still see the correct specs in the general document found here. Go to page 5 of 9 in the pdf and check out the specs for TY-FB7HM. They tell you that the 7th gen HDMI blade accepts 525/60p (that's 480p@60), 625/50p (that would be 576p@50), 750/60p (that's 720p but at 60Hz only!), 1126/60i (that's 1080i@60) and VGA60 (which is 640x480@60Hz). You will unfortunately not be better off with the TY-FB8HM which still doesn't list 1024x720 at any freq as a supported input signal. Still, I would be curious if 720p60 does give you a good result or not. Given that setup and assumed use of HDMI, that's what I would try.
Cheers,
Dorian

Additional note:
It might just be that on applying a digital video signal (such as 720p60) via HDMI to your Panny, the internal display processing cannot be completely circumvented (I can't say for sure, I haven't had an opportunity to play with your exact model of display, but that would be my guess). This would eventually result in some overscan (a few percentiles) applied to the image by the internal display processing engine. To check if this is true, after setting the VP50 to output 720p60 , try underscanning the image from the VP50 menu and see if there's more to see than first meets the eye. If you can reveal more of the image, then you can try to compensate the internal overscan until you see garbage appear or you reveal parts of the image that are unstable (it is commonplace to have some grabbled video info on the picture edges, at least with some sources).

If this is the case, couldnt the blade be swapped out with the Panny DVI blade and then use the VP-50 to send its native rate of 1024x720? You can use a DVI to HDMI adapter on the cable and it should work perfectly. Seems like a waste of money to have a VP-50 and not sent the panel its NR and if you can afford a scaler then a new card for $100 seems like no big deal.

SORRY: I just re-read the ver first post and saw he used the HDMI for audio as well so this wouldnt work. Perhaps you could run a seperate audio cable from the VP-50 to the coax digital audio in on the plasma and do what I said above? It is an extra cable but, you will improve the PQ.

The answer to your question I believe is that the Panny HDMI blades do not accept the panels native rate. I am 90% sure of that, not 100%.

Found the manual - link for TY-FB7HM is: http://panasonic.biz/pdp/manual/manu...s/ty_fb7hm.pdf
look at the table on page 7 in the pdf for supported input signals.
