Just downloaded my first VC game -- Love it.

Only beef is the control scheme -- on the wavebird the sprint/carry/yoshi and normal jump buttons are about as far apart as you can get -- is there ANY way to change the button layout?

Not that I know of. I use the Classic controller and it works perfectly.

I bought the classic controller and haven't opened it yet. Is it really better than GC controllers enough to be worth paying the $20 for?

Anyway I loved SMW and will buy that and MK64 when I get a chance.

On some games, yes.

Agreed, the button layout on the GC controller for this game is just silly. Makes it unenjoyable to play. I have to get the classic controller, if only for this game.

I agree oktober. The conspiracy theorist in me wonders if this game alone was a way to sell some more classic controllers... It would not have been hard to make the main jump the A button and the spin jump the B, which still would have been strange but at least playable. The spin jump is used so rarely -- why make it the main button?

Yeah, I bought the Classic Controller just because I heard the Wavebird's button mapping make the VC a headache for most games.

Well Mario Kart 64 was terrible on the Classic Controller, I have yet to try the cube controllers though

This may be a dumb question but...

Are these VC games ever in 16x9 or are they 4x3 as they were originally programmed.

I would definitely buy a whole lot of VC games if they were reformatted properly for 16x9 displays, but I'm assuming they haven't been.

Can someone confirm?

Super mario world stretches, and doesn't look bad. Some of the text is funny to read, but it is few and far between, and is not completely illegible.

I just picked up the classic controller -- I'm impressed with how well it works -- not in love with the fact that I couldn't just use the wavebird.

To answer your question though Laura -- SMW looks great in 16x9. I can't speak for the others. I wouldn't let that be a reason to keep you from getting it.

Yea, if a game was originally @ 4:3, it is 4:3 via VC. Which as Ferris said, isn't a terrible thing; the games don't look all that bad. There's some good VC games out there..download away!
