Pioneer Elite Sub Settings - "Plus" vs. "Yes" for Large Fronts?

Question for those familiar with the Pioneer Elite's subwoofer settings...

I understand that the difference between just setting the subwoofer to "yes" vs. "plus" means that under "Plus" the sub gets the same bass or LFE that the fronts (and center if in surround mode) get. I also know that to get any sub output in 2 ch. stereo mode you need to have the sub set to "plus".

What I don't know or understand is that if I have "large" front speakers and want to add my sub for music and set the receiver to "plus", does the LFE crossover take effect? In other words...can I still control the frequencies that go to the sub in "plus" mode? I don't want all of the same bass that go to the large fronts going to the sub but I'd like to be able to use it for music to accent those really low frequencies, even with my large fronts.

I have Def Tech 7006 fronts that have powered 8" subs built in, but I am looking to get a new separate subwoofer that will be be to handle even lower frequencies.

What have others here experienced with these sub settings on the Pioneer Elite's?

BTW...I have an Elite 82.

So far in a bit of playing with the settings, "plus" just seems to throw more bass at the sub for HT 5.1 and then just seems to send the same bass that the fronts are getting for 2 ch. stereo.

Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Is that true? Why do you think that?

Setting front speakers to "small", and subwoofer to "yes" should also do the job. (And thats's what I'd recommend). Not that I have an 84 (yet).

I would expect the "plus" setting to take the bass from below the crossover from all speakers, even the "large" ones, and send it to the sub. So bass from large speakers will be duplicated - this can cause various nasties.

You are correct that setting the fronts to "small" and then setting the sub to "yes" would give you correct LFE in 2 ch., however, my fronts are "large" speakers so that would defeat the purpose of owning them. I want to have the range of the large fronts with the sub to compliment 2 ch., but think that the "plus" setting is doing more than just complimenting the fronts by sending more than just the crossover frequencies to the sub. Maybe not though...it never is explained anywhere in the manual.

That's why I am hoping someone here may know what the heck the "plus" sub setting is actually doing!?!?
