XBOX 360 AND Wii owners: If you could only keep one, which one would you keep?

I've been an owner of an XBOX 360 for about 6 months now, and I LOVE it. I have the HD DVD drive attachment, and rent movies for it every week. It's great! I've had a few opportunities to play on Wii, and I've had nothing but fun. The wife says "ABSOLUTELY NOT" to having two game systems in the house, so I'm forced to choose between the two (I could care less about PS3 at this point). So... the question for those of you that have owned BOTH the XBOX 360 and the Wii:

If YOU had to choose between the XBOX 360 and the Wii, which one would you keep?

"Why you chose the one you did" comments are welcome below.

I've gone ahead and also posted a link to this thread in the Nintendo threads to keep it fair. THANKS!!!

Well considering I have the PS3, and the Wii and the 360 is literally collecting dust in the store room in its box..... and I'm just going to give it to a cousin of mine probably. Personally id keep the Wii. Its going to have more AAA games come out for it im sure, ones that don't all consist of shooting. Not that I don't mind that, but it gets old when one system's claim to fame in the larger market is shooters only.

If I had to choose one, and thank god I don't, I'd go with the 360. The Wii has yet to establish itself as a viable gaming console. I've had a ton of fun playing it with others, but as of yet it has proved to be a great party system. Aside from Zelda, there are no other games (yet) that really absorb and give the player a great single player experience. The 360 has beautiful online multiplayer a great single player games.

New wife perhaps?

Keep both and get rid of the wife. Pretty funny that reflex still has the shooters only mentality about the xbox--its such a tired and untrue analysis of the system. Keep the 360, much better games coming for it than for the Wii.

I actually did make this choice. I didn't have to, but I didn't feel like I needed two game systems at this point. I picked the Xbox, mostly because of the current game selection. I agree with Thrillhouse in that the Wii is a great party system, but I never felt the urge to play it when I was by myself. I ended up giving the Wii to my brother.

I'm also glad that I don't have to make this choice, but I would keep the Wii. This mostly has to do with my personal gaming preferences as I tend to enjoy games from Nintendo more than almost any other publisher/development house. The 360 definitely has the better games right now though as the Wii is going through the standard post-release drought. I originally intended only to get a Wii, but ended up getting the $100 360 deal from Amazon and so I have both. I got them at almost the same time and I own 2 games for the 360 and 5 games for the Wii. Both are great systems, and now I'm looking at a PS3 because I really want a blu-ray player (no real interest in any of the games for that system though).

Thank God that my wife completely understands

I can't imagine a situation where I allow my wife to dictate to me what and how many systems/entertainment devices I can own if it's my own money I'm spending. No offense to the thread creator....

Without a doubt, I would keep my 360 over the Wii. Same goes for my PS3....the Wii would have to go.

To the original poster......you need to grow a set.

Here's some words of wisdom: "If da wife ain't happy, ain't NOBODY happy" (if you know what I'm saying...)

Absolutely not?? Why? Sounds extreme.
As far as HAVING to choose between the 2... I'd choose the 360... If you asked one of my kids they would say Wii. But we don't have to choose as all three consoles offer something different that my entire family enjoys.

Agreed, but try telling your wife that she's only allowed to have one pair of black shoes, or brown shoes.....or one pair of shoes period. See how she reacts to that. I'm a 2 system owner and I'll be damned if my wife tells me what I can and cannot buy.....within reason of course.

I don't own a Wii as availability has still made them scarce so I didn't vote. But if I did absolutely had to choose, the Wii is gone. Halo 3 is the sole reason I even bought the 360 and I'm not giving gaming in HD to gaming in 480p. Now when H3 comes out and it just happens to suck big time, then I would have no problems re-evaluating my statements made here and swapping the Wii back in for the 360. Until then, playing in HD pushes the Wii out of the picture.

Yeah I follow your last point, but seriously. As said above, tell her she can only have one purse,or one bag.My gf/fiancee has about 8 bags, all look different, but ultimately have the same function. If I may ask,why does your wife object to you having more than one system? As long as you take care of your family/financial etc committments, what's the deal otherwise?

I have an Xbox360 and a Wii. I would choose the Xbox360 over the Wii because I feel like the 360 offers more with Xbox Live and streaming from my PC.

I've purchased two ps3s and sold them both times. One when I was leaving Walmart on launch day to a mom looking for one for her son. I sold it at sticker price. I bought another a few weeks back and went to pick out a game and couldnt find any I honestly wanted and nothing is coming out that interests me so I just sold it to my brother-in-law...He called me the other day asking for his 600 bucks back..I think he is going to sell it to a friend of his...The Wii is at one of my fiances friends house they all get together and play the crap out of it...I like it just not to play by myself, I will love and keep my 360 forever I love live, games, the interactivity is just out of this world compared to the other consoles...I dont think I could live without it anymore...I play games on it, talk to my friends and family, watch movies...It does everything..

I dont have kids and dont have parties at my house a lot so I would go with the 360.

The 360 has so much more potential then the Wii in the long run as you can do so much more on it now and the potential for easy upgrade of software and hardware exist (by this I mean memory, graphics, DVDs not gimicky game play). The 360 is a box you can do something with every day while the Wii is a fun little toy you pull out every once in a while.

My little story is I searched and searched before Christmas for a Wii and the closest I got was 9th in line where 6 existed. So I was forced into the 360, not that I was totally against it but it was my second choice I wanted to wait for the mythical A/V version.

Today Jr. has a birthday in six weeks, last night we talked about it and not getting the Wii (as we planned all along) because of things like DDR, Guitar Hero 2 and several other games the first two mentioned cost quite a bit due to additional hardware. I mentioned to him that the Wii would have a lot more to choose from come Christmas anyway, he agreed.

The 360 has gone well beyond my expectations and is the best console I have ever touched (I am a PC guy). As a family we NOW play a lot as a family and have variety in our games like the variety in a family. I thought it was going to take the Wii to bring my family into gaming, but the 360 did it. My wife has comeback to gaming from being 15 years removed, the card and puzzle games brought her back in and that led to the other stuff as well now. The arcade stuff has also been good if not better then the professional $60 offerings imo, we like a ton of things on the arcade, much more family orientated.

I also don't get that real excitement of ownership with the Wii at its forums here. There isn't a lot of talk about it and it's games. I am now starting to see remorse. But please don't take that as a slam too much, it's more of a heat check for me as so many things fight for my dollar that I have to be choosy. I still love the idea of the remote and there are some games that look like they could be wicked fun for a family. I'd still love to own one someday but cost of entry for a console is well beyond the list price of the unit when you factor in accessories and startup games.

The only negative with the 360 is the high rate of red lights. I haven't rec'd one and keep everything crossed over here to help fight that. I also picked up the HD DVD player and love that, I only use stereo mode right now due to the 5.1 issues with it, but still love it!

There are now evil thoughts of a second 360 entering our house and a second Live account. There are a lot of coop live only games that we are missing out on playing with each other over here that a second unit has some merit. MS would earn major points in this house if there was a way to spawn one $60 game on multiple "linked" 360's, hint... hint... It only helps them as there is no way I'm buying two $60 games in one house, so it would be a welcome, great word of mouth feature. lol

PS3 hovers as my BD alternative in the case I have to go there.

I own all of the previous gen consoles (PS2, GC, XBox) and played my XBox the most and GC the least. I haven't bought a "next gen" console yet but I have played my friend's 360 and Wii (I have no interest in the PS3 right now due to lack of games and high price). Between the 360 and the Wii, I think that currently the 360 has much better single player games and probably in the foreseeable future (for me). I'm actually tired of playing Zelda, Metroid, and Mario games as each new version seems to just be the same game (I actually bought the new Zelda game for my GC and only touched it once). I think the Wii is great for party games (Warioware is fun, but I can't see playing it by myself), but I see a 360 in my future.

Everything does get taken care of; she just views video games as a "waste of time".

Whats not a waste of time? Is watching TV not a waste of time? Listening to the radio? Reading novels? Pointless jobs?

Pretty much everything humans (and other species for that matter, dam dog sleeps 15 hours a day) do is a way to waste time until we die. Why do people say their way of wasting time is better then someone elses way to waste of time?

seeing as how my wii collects dust and i play the 360 6+ hours a day.. i'd say i'll keep my 360
post #22 of 75
360 no doubt. I haven't played the Wii since Christmas. I can only play so much Trauma Center before my head explodes.

So her opinion counts more? There are many things I am sure she does which one could say is a waste of time such as sitting in front of the television at night watching favorite shows. Her going to a craft shop or committing time to any given hobby is a "waste" of time to the person not interested. Basically, her argument is invalid and you are letting her run your life.

But if it's your hobby and you enjoy it,why would she deny you?Is you playing games more a time waster than her watching her nightly sitcoms or whatever else she likes to do?Not wanting to start an argument, just find it kinda odd.

LOL, you sound like him reasoning with his wife.. At which case doesn't work with them..

I love both but I would definitely keep the 360. Graphics are very important to me and even though I love the Wii...I'm still disappointed with the graphics of the Wii games to date. Also none of the games have really 'grabbed me', even Zelda. I've had it (Zelda) for 2 months (Dec. 18th) and played it for about 5 hours total. I honestly would rather play WiiSports or Warioware.

For me the Wii is a fun little diversion or a nice 'party game' machine when we have friends come over but for hard core gaming it is the 360 (or PC) for me no doubt.

Wow... Exactly how long have you been married?
I think we are wasting our time trying to fundamentally change his household. If that's the way it is in his house, then we all should just leave it at that. You wouldn't want somebody telling you what your wife should or shouldn't do. Let's just help him out with the advice he really needs. Whether we would keep the Wii or the 360 given the hypothetical scenario.

It is a forum dedicated to AV tech and the question he asks can be made hypothetical, but he did decide to mention the deeper reasoning behind asking. So just to be fair any comments made beyond the scope of the 360 VS the Wii weren't exactly uninvited. I know it's not a marriage counseling forum, but I don't see the harm in questioning his wife's motives if he made the choice to mention her as the one who has forced him to ask this question in the first place.

No one's trying to change anyone, why can't we just gain a better understanding of the situation as I'm sure most of us in a similar situation would feel that being told what you can and can't do is hardly a compromise. That lays room for the joke that marriage is a dictatorship not a democracy, but ideally it could be the latter more than the former.
