Acoustic Room Treatments

Thread Starter
I am looking to install some room treatments, but don't know where to begin. My room is 18x14x8 dry wall with a drop ceiling and berber carpet on concrete block.

Not sure what to buy and where to place, any suggestions would be great.

Thanks,

Lou

Lou, Well, to start, are you familier with "the point of first reflection?"

There are a ton of existing threads as the other member said in dedicated HT construction forum and in the audio theory forum. This area is geared more towards posters and popcorn poppers than discussing audio theory and acoustic solutions.

At the top of the dedicated const. forum is a master sticky thread on acoustics and treatments. That is a good place to start. Not that you are asking, but just to confirm there isn't a cookie cutter approach to doing acoustics correctly. The only basics are bass traps in the corners and high frequency absorption at the points of first reflection...meaning where the speakers sound first reflects at the wall and ceiling. You sit in the sweet spot and have someone run a full length mirror at can be bought for $5 at target along the wall....when you see the speaker in the reflection for the first time...that is where one can assume is the first reflection point. Again there is a ton of existing info....use advance search engine and title search only for best results in the two forums suggested.
