New SACD player (question)

I am a 5.1 audio engineer, and in my free time i love listening to SACD and other hi res sources.
i have great speakers and a great reciever but i still have a pretty outdated (or so i think) SACD player.

its a 3 year old pioneer dvd/sacd/dvd-a player. Its starting to crap out on me and not read my multichannel hybrid sacds. it only reads the cd layer. which makes me sad.

so, heres the question,
I work at bestbuy/Magnolia hi-fi, So i get amazing discounts on hi end yamaha and denon. Ill spend $500 but no more than that. What player should i get? (oh . . . and why?)

thanks

If you trust ebay, you can get a new in box Pioneer Elite 79avi for 5-600. In local store auditions, I preferred it to similarly and higher priced models. There is a marantz model that is comparable...I think the Marantz does video better, but the pio E was nicer sound for audio, plus it has Ilink which is nice for easy multichannel transfer to your receiver.

There have been some good things said here about the Oppo Universal players. Check out the DV-970 HD for about $150.00 or the DV981 HD for around $230.00 . My Pioneer is working fine but if I were to change players, I would look hard at the Oppo's.

I had/have the Denon 2200, 2910 and the 3910 and depending on how much money you want to spend I can recommend all three. A new 2930 should be in your price range with discount and used 3910's as well. I love my 3910 for both MC music and as a DVD player.

I'd recommend a Pio Elite DVD player (both SACD & DVD-A) hooked up via iLink to a Pio Elite AVR - really sweet!
