Brownouts are when the house AC voltage drops much lower than 110v, no one notices because it only lasts a few seconds but something might break if you happen to be running a lot of gears and be playing your audio system at high volume. The only way I know I'm having a brownout is from my UPS for my computer in the other room. I hear that thing beep at least once a month, it only beeps when it switches from AC outlet to battery. I know the problem is not my house because the wiring is done in 12 gauge and it's fairly new, and I get 117~120v normally.
I live near a paper factory so maybe everytime they start their giant machine it disrupts the entire power grid?
