I working with Leo at HSU and it appears my problem comes from subsonic information in the Blu-ray version of POTC 2. I created a test tone CD from 10Hz to 160Hz. The problem occurs at 12Hz and 13Hz when played at 80db. Any suggestions on what to do?

I have a question for you guys. I recently purchased a home with a 15X16 living room, vaulted ceilings and opening on one end of the living room to dining/kitchen area.

I currently have Energy Exl-S10 subwoofer that has served me well for several years. I am thinking of getting the VTF-3 MK-3 and placing it in a nearfield position behind the couch. I was thinking of using the Energy sub in a farfield position in the front corner. Does it make sense to do this?

I have three choices I believe...

1. Setup like above HSU + Energy
2. HSU only
3. HSU + Energy and save for another HSU

What do you guys think?

I don't know much about the energy sub but in a room that size even open to the rest of the house if you corner load the HSU it will be enough for a room that size. My main issue against using both subs together would be the quality of the Energy. HSU subs are very articulate and if the Energy can't keep up you would have more output at the cost of worse sounding bass.

I wouldn't under estimate the capabilities of the Energy sub. I went from an XL-S12 to an VTF-3 HO w/ Turbo. The VTF-3 without a doubt has much better low end extension starting at about 31.5Hz but everything above 31.5Hz the Energy is every bit the equal of the VTF-3.
From 16Hz to 31.5Hz I have not heard a sub which can hold a candle to the VTF-3. I had an XL-S8 in my townhouse and upgraded to XL-S12 when I moved to my house with almost identical room dimensions to yours. The open floor plan and vaulted ceilings proved a challenge for the little 8" sub so I upgrade to the XL-S12 and two weeks ago upgraded to the VTF-3 after almost seven years with the XL-S12.

Since you already own the Energy sub, and plan to purchase the HSU, why not try both configurations you listed and see which one puts the biggest smile on your face? It won't cost you one penny more and you will know, without a doubt, you have the best setup you can afford.

After careful consideration and reading review after review (especially craigsubs rankings) I pulled the trigger on a 3.3 non Turbo on Friday. It was delievered today via FedEx! Unfortunately I cannot try it out yet because I've yet to order my speakers. I'll be getting Ascends 340 probably after next paycheck. I can't wait!

Check the power cord at both ends...power switch....etc. If they all look and feel fine, and you still get nothing....call Hsu.

You may also want to check the fuse on the amp (right above where the power cord is plugged in).

If you look closely at the fuse, inside the glass, you will see what looks like a wire that goes from one end to the other. If the fuse is blown, you will see a break in the wire.

If you checked the obvious already (power outlet, plug, on/off switch), the only thing I could think of next would be to contact HSU in the morning.

So the power outlet rating needs to be 430W - how do I make sure it is 430W. I have plugged it in a normal household power outlet - dont know what rating a normal power outlet rating should be?

You could put a meter on the outlet and see what you get. I think as long as you dont have almost everything plugged into the same circuit, you should good. I have mine plugged into a normal wall outlet without any problems.

Out of curiosity, have you tried plugging in another electrical product in the outlet you have your sub connected to? Maybe you flipped a breaker in your house electrical box?

my 3 year old STF-2 completely died a couple of weeks ago. I went to turn it on and nothing happened whatsoever, and i have no idea how long it's been dead. I tried different wall plugs, different power cables, everything.

Is the amp probably dead? How can I test? I have no idea what I'm doing and I don't feel like screwing it up more if it's something I might be able to fix.

*edit* just saw that someone else has the same problem and I noted the advice given.

*edit2* Fuse is still good, so I guess I'm boned.

Customer Support is sending me a new AMP since it is within the 30 days from dt of purchase. I just feel unlucky.

I had used the LFE in of the subwoofer letting my Integra DTR 6 do the processing.

He asked me about the level setup of the receiver. Why does it matter?

Whoo Hoo - I just received my confirm email from HSU for my new VTF-2 MRK-3 subwoofer. After discussing the demensions of my room with Dr. Hsu - he suggested to go with the 2.3 instead of the VTF1.

Not sure how quick FedEx is, but I am doing cant wait dance right now !!!!!

If you have a 2nd subwoofer and want to set up a near field sub with a far field sub I came across this inline filter at Parts Express: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=266-270. This will allow you to use a 2nd sub with a 50 hz filter (like the MBM-12 Mid-bass Module).

Just purchased the Hsu 3.3 along with the Horn center channel and 4 horns for fr, fl and surrounds However I have no idea about speaker calibration, location etc. at all. Never had a sound system before and I just recently purchased the new onkyo 605. I guess it will be trial and error for a while one i learn this new reciever and all of the buttons.

I would call HSU directly and see how much a new amp would be. The Bash amps have a 2 year warranty period.

I ordered mine on 6/15/07 and I live in Tucson, AZ. I still havn't recieved a shipment confirmation e-mail. I emailed them a couple of times with no repsonse and I am starting to get irritated about it. The only thing that is keeping me from getting really mad is that I dont need it right away.

I don't have time to give them a call due to my work schedule, which sucks but I will continue to e-mail them and if nothing happens I will just have to give them a call.

Mine arrived in Chicago about 4 or 5 days after I ordered it earlier this year, but I suppose their stock situation varies. It got here before they ever notified me it was on its way. They are notorious for poor communications about deliveries.
