Hey y'all. I got a VTF3.3 and I've basically picked up a Radio Shack SPL. They didn't have the analog one in stock where I went so I picked up the digital one. It seemed to work pretty well.
Before tuning, I found that I had no real mid punch and that I could localize the subwoofer. There was a lot of low bass, but it just overpowered everything else. This is what I would experience when using the Pioneer VSX-90 TXV's build in MCACC auto tuning.
So, using the SPL and the AVIA guide, I found that it required me to really keep the sub very low in gain and on the receiver to match the 85 DB at about 0 volume level on my receiver. I ended up with about -7.5 DB on the receiver (min = -10). Now, when playing it, I have some bass, but I prefer it running a little hot and have set it at -5 DB on the receiver because I like the extra bass. The result is nice and balanced with a little extra kick. So far, most of my test music plays without the levels being too high or too low.
I don't have the port and it's being sent to me via mail at the moment. Therefore, I'm doing all this with Max Output. When I do Max Extension, would I have to calibrate all this over again? Otherwise, does all this sound legit? Even though I've got the sub at a very low volume, it's banging! It's next to the couch in an endtable setup.
Now, I've got to figure out how to use the Room Eq Wizard with my macbook pro 13" to see if I can get a room sweep.
